Year-round I buy canned black olives and cans of kidney beans (for salads), and I keep a can or two of soup and a can of chili in case we lose power. I am not a fan of canned foods. Every so often I might buy a can of black beans. Cooking for one, I wouldn't take the time very often to make beans in such small quantities. Your salad sounds yummy!

What an amazing story and good for them to earn all the money to make their dream a reality! It is so beautiful. Did they by any chance find things to salvage in the pile of junk. (Sorry, I can't go to the link to read up more.

Thanks for sharing their story on AP!

I respectfully disagree, Annie. 8x8 is horrible, and I have raised chickens for many years and I can tell you they take a lot of care, they still smell even with daily clean-up and just because there is other noise doesn't mean people should inflict noise on their neighbors. Chickens in small spaces will often all turn on one in the flock and start stripping it of its feathers. This usually happens when they are cooped up. They then need to be divided to protect the one being attacked. Just because they are chickens doesn't mean they shouldn't have humane conditions.

And as far as dogs barking, I also think people are rude who choose a dog from a barking breed and then leave it home and it is lonely and will bark for many reasons.

Can I Keep Backyard Chickens in New York City? Good Questions

You know, questions like this irritate me to no end. People who have no clue how much work it takes to keep the chickens safe, healthy, happy, in regularly sanitized coops, humane and healthy living conditions, nor to they consider the stench that they give off and have no cosideration for neighbors who have to smell the coops, handle the noise all because a neighbor doesn't give a rip how it impacts others. Chickens attract a boatload of flies as well and they can easily become sick and diseased if they are not well-cared for. If you choose to live so close together in the city, then have some consideration for your neighbors, and also for the chickens. It is often so cruel how people keep chickens.

No way. I take good care of my shoes, but don't want them all over the place. I cannot handle chaos. I come home for peace, beauty, serenity and that means things put away. no clutter, and I don't want to feel like I live in a closet or a garage sale site. I will be so glad when this ridiculously tasteless craze for everything out in the open passes.

I always swirl the water and then pour the egg in. The swirling water really makes a difference to the shape of the egg. It is much nicer looking.

I did a lot of research before I bought the Breville toaster oven and I love it. Don't buy a Kitchenaide mixer unless you go to the professional model. The cheaper models have plastic gears which wear out quickly, while their expensive ones have metal gears.

Search lots of sites and read reviews before you purchase items. It is eye-opening to read and also learn the pros and cons.

And I also want a Miele vacuum, but it needs to wait.

Would this be good for a meal the next day? I am concerned that the basil would wilt, so maybe I should make the potatoes the night before and mix the rest the morning of? Thoughts, please!
