Another way to go, especially if you can't paint the cabinets, is to do dark and white. It always looks elegant. You might be allowed to add some knobs to the cabinents to dress them up and make them more functional. You could do a light wall where the dark cabinents are and then a dark chalkboard paint on the wall with the white cabinents and the cutout. Or do chalkboard paint as your backsplash and around the outside door and a white on the upper wall area above the cabinents and hang some pictures up there. Chalkboard paint is a great way to make a rental kitchen look interesting and distracts from cheap cabinents. Also some curtains with a nice modern pattern with some color would make a huge difference. If you are doing black chalkboard paint I would do something with dark blue in the curtains.

On the poster frame question you might try and head to TJ Maxx or Marshall's and find a cheap framed print and replace it with your poster. Many times you can get decent frames for less that way.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to go check out the tables in person. The one I really want is the one below from Habitat in the UK but there doesn't seem to be an easy to buy stuff from there. Our place is Victorian and I like how this is a modern update on Victorian design. Does anyone know how it could be done? I am obsessed with their kitchen cabinents too. I really wish they had stores here.

Shades and Blinds

I got my best deal from Budget Blinds and they will install too. We're not handy and had to hire someone to put in our sunshades from Smith and Noble and they did not hold up well either.

Glass Panel Door Question

We replaced a whole wall in our last place with doors from The Sliding Door Company
http://www.slidingdoorco.com/ and they looked amazing. I am going to use them again for my closets in my new place. Compared to other options I saw they were much more affordable and they are from a local Illinois company.
