We soak for 24 hours and add epazote - it's a Mexican herb (tastes a little bit like thyme) that magically makes all the toots & discomfort of bean eating disappear! Tastes nice too. :) Why I Soak Dried Beans for 24 Hours |

I live in St. Louis & while I adore shopping there, I don't think I've ever walked out without at least $100 less in my wallet... They have so many wonderful gourmet treats, but many are pricey. Of course, this is one of the few groceries in town whom a shopper can call and ask the produce manager to order figs or quince or whatever, and they'll do it (for free). I love Straubs - sometimes too much. ;) Straub's: Gourmet Groceries in St. Louis & Online Store Profile |

From what I've read, the gases that make your eyes water dissipate in water. I'd guess that having ... um, a bit of drool? ... while cutting might "catch" the fumes before they make it to your eyes.... Best Way to Stop Onion Tears? Put Bread In Your Mouth |

Real *non-toxic edible* leaves... Wouldn't want to do this with oleander, for instance. Biting into an oak leaf wouldn't be toxic, but would be unpleasant. Look! How To Make Easy, Edible Candy Leaves |

Tasks, tasks, tasks. Leave a few things for her to prepare - salad prep, slicing raw vegetables, etc. This way she stays busy and feels like part of the process, and is otherwise occupied (so to avoid scallop flipping) and you are subtly stepping up as head chef in your own kitchen. @ our home we eat jaggery. It's a sugar from Asia that is traditionally (non-centrifuge) processed without chemicals. Calorically, it is probably similar to white sugar, but it has more minerals. We avoid almost all white sugars, simply because something like 90% are made from GM beets. Real cane sugar can be a challenge to find, and we're not big fans of how it is processed so I only use it when it's absolutely required (like in candy making, etc.). Assuming it isn't name brand & can't be exchanged for a new non-chipped pot, you could still use it to bake bread in. I have a Target enameled pot that began to crackle in a bad way after a few too many abuses, and I simply line the pan completely with parchment paper before I put the bread in. It's actually nicer to bake bread this way - when the round is done I can quickly lift it out by grabbing the edges of the paper. What Should I Do With a Damaged Enameled Cast Iron Pot? Jam is great for spreading between the layers of a layer cake instead of ice cream. Think raspberry jam between layers of a chocolate cake, with a dark chocolate ganache icing. Or strawberry jam between layers of lemon cake with a cream cheese frosting. What Are Some Everyday Ways to Cook With Jam? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |
