I'm an owner in Marina City. To answer Sean Stevenson (who posted 4-24-11): there are both good and bad points about living in MC, as with living in any condo situation, regardless of any specific building. The location can't be beat, the views are amazing if you get the right unit (we have a SE facing condo in the west tower, so we see the river, lake, and Navy Pier Ferris wheel), and the balconies are fantastic (in summer of course).

The condo board isn't so great, but they are mostly older in age (which is perhaps the reason they're all so fuddy-duddy), and a lot of MC residents are hoping they'll retire and move away to a warmer state, or pass on from age, thus giving us get a chance to get new blood on the board.

My husband and I bought here in 2004, then bought a house in Riverside in 2007 and moved there (but kept our condo as an in-town place). We absolutely hated the 'burbs, so we moved back to our condo in 2009. We don't regret it in the least, even with the condo board issues. It's actually more private here than it was in the suburban house, as MC is entirely concrete, so the sound insulation from neighbors on each side is excellent. And owners can remodel with a mostly free hand (we've remodeled a lot of our condo, for example).

If you want more info, contact me at marinacityresident@gmail.com and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
