Slice the bread before you freeze it and only take out what you need as you need it. Sliced bread thaws quickly. It can also be popped in the toaster straight out of the freezer.

It's not attractive. The foam looks like it's finished and will need to be replaced. The cost of the reupholstering will probably be on par with if not more than what you'd pay for a new sofa by the time you add up fabric, foam, and labor costs. It will not be an easy task to recover by yourself judging by the shape.

I think it's hideous and for that I love it. If you want to paint it, I think you should do a bright yellow or a bright pink. But then again, kelly green would look wonderful with turquoise walls.

Buy mouse traps that kill. Don't bother with humane traps. Mice like their home base and are incredible at returning to it. Bait the traps with a small piece of bread and peanut butter. Place the traps lengthwise alone the wall wherever you are finding droppings. Fill holes around pipes with steel wool. Remember that no hole is too small for a mouse.

Seal up all your food. Everything. Put it in containers that the mice can't get into or smell. Make sure you aren't leaving crumbs around. If you have fruit or bread that you keep out, put it in the fridge overnight.

My parents redid their kitchen in the last year. They looked at IKEA cabinetry but went custom for several reasons. The first was that the customization is just not there with IKEA cabinets. They were able to have deeper pantries with drawers than they would have with IKEA. They did not want to have to use a lot of filler pieces like they would have with IKEA. Their contractor has installed IKEA kitchens before and said they were a pain to get level and didn't always fit flush. They got all the features they wanted going custom, like a large lazy susan, a non-standard corner cupboard, drawers that were specific depths to hold spice jars and mixing bowls, an angled lower cabinet to maximize counter and storage space without impeding traffic. Yes they paid more, but they got the kitchen they wanted that would suit their needs. IKEA is good if you're working within a tight budget or if you don't use your kitchen.

Unframed canvas isn't heavy. You can buy prints that are mounted on canvas or stretch fabric over it if you're not artistically inclined. Society6 has a great selection if you want to go in that direction. Or you could buy an art print and pin it to the wall with some nice tacks.

I don't personally like the idea of a painted headboard so I'm going to suggest you check out yard sales or second hand shops for a headboard that can be painted a fun colour.

I agree. I'm not really getting a sense of the decor or the overall theme of the home because it's just closeups. I'd like to see the whole room and then a couple closeups of unique features.

On the flip side, I have had the same argument with my mother about gift givige since I was a teenager, and that is that I would rather receive one expensive item or gift certificates to stores that I like than several small items. I will not be disappointed with one gift or gift certificates, I don't need to have a lot to open. I would just like to receive gifts that I'll appreciate. So if people find their children are not being grateful, maybe they need to figure out if they are giving their children gifts they actually want.

1) Lower the art hung over the couch. It's too high.
2) A larger rug. Your furniture should anchor the edges of your rug. Right now it looks like it's floating.
3) A bold accent colour. I like bright yellow for this space, but your colours are so neutral that you could really use anything.
4) Personal touches. It looks like a showroom or hotel because there's nothing in there that says someone lives there.
5) I'm not loving the configuration of your furniture. It looks like a giant square and may make for awkward traffic flow. Try putting the armless chair on an angle beside the couch.

Keep the couch on the wall beside the window. Find a funky wallpaper that has a similar colour as the background with the pattern in white. Nothing too busy though. Something like this Zee Wallpaper would make the couch look less outdated and more kitsch. I wouldn't hang a painting behind the couch, but a mirror or piece of metal artwork would work well. Buy a natural fiber carpet in a neutral tone. Go with a natural wood look for any tables but mix it up with glass or metal lamps.

As for the bikes, there are a lot of options for hanging bikes on the wall now. I would use the wall between the two doors.

Why is everyone so grossed out by hair? It's hair! Most of us have it. It's not like it's a bodily fluid. It's dead. It doesn't carry diseases. It can't infect you with anything.

I think the leaves are beautiful. They are like more delicate renditions of hair flowers I saw at Heritage Park in Calgary years ago, an artwork that very few people still knew how to do.

Working top down:
Box in the former attic area so that it's flat. It draws the eye up when there is already a beautiful focal point in the form of the fireplace and it's asymmetry just looks off.
Change the colour. The red is to bold, it's distracting. A fantastic green, blue, or turquoise would work better and play up the colour of the furniture, while also bringing out the golden tones in the floor.
It's difficult to tell from the angle of the photo, but if possible, knock out the side of the shelves to allow a built-in to be extended right to the wall. This would get rid of that odd shadowed nook where dust bunnies collect.
Since the tv does need to be placed there, go with built-ins. I'm going to suggest open shelving for books or artwork. Glass would be too clunky in the space and glare.
Put the tv on a pullout wall mount bar rather than mounting it above the fireplace. Because of the fireplace is functional, the heat from it could actually ruin the television depending on what kind you have.
Paint the fireplace a colour that is similar to the wall colour, but don't do it the same colour. Maybe a colour that is one or two steps different on a paint chart.
Someone suggested removing the bulkhead over the fireplace, but I can pretty much guarantee you that there's a support beam under there and that would get very costly.
Unrelated to the fireplace wall, if possible hang a chandelier fixture from the ceiling. The space can certainly afford it and I feel that it would really complement your decor.

It's difficult to tell due to the variations in computer screens what colour would work well for you in your home. Looking at my fan deck, I can tell you that if you want a true gray, classic gray is the way to go. Abalone has a purply brown hue, and could end up looking muddy. Gray owl definitely has a blue base, so if you were looking for something warm, you should stay away from it. If you're worried about classic gray being too light, you may want to choose another from the same paint strip; I suggest winds breath.

Keep in mind too that gray is the ultimate neutral. It will make any other colour in your room appear true, so any colour is going to really pop. If you don't want the browns you already own to pop, you may wish to go with a gray that has a brownish hue.

I think you should look into Hunter Douglas blinds. They can run a little pricey, but they have a wide variety of top down/bottom up shades, including cordless. They also have a lot of options in terms of how much light a window treatment will let through, including some wide slat blinds that are encased in a sheer fabric to provide privacy but also let light through.
