Do you have any information on the large green bottle/vase in the first picture on the floor? I have one that I've had for many years but know nothing about it. Thanks.

Wonderful to see a small space edited with beautiful things rather than a large space filled with cheap items. I appreciate many aspects of your place: (1) Made high end comfortable and accessible, (2) Successfully mixed textures and incorporated warmth with some choice wood accents, and (3) Filled the space at all levels (e.g., art on walls at varying heights) including the airspace with the Flos wall lamp (love) without cluttering. Well done. Tasteful. Timeless. A Jeff Koons Puppy Vase would look perfect in your apartment.

I am a big fan of mixing modern manufactured pieces with natural free form natural elements. The table in the 4th picture is by the master of Nakashima. Here's a link to many other of his examples (brace yourselves). Love.

There is something so appealing about how the pictures are arranged in a chaotic, yet organized manner. Arranging the books by color on the shelves is a nice touch.

Well done. Designed with a clear point of view without being trendy or obvious (think Color Splash and other HGTV programs). And finally someone who knows how to use plants effectively and elegantly (vs. random pots of lucky bamboo, spider plants, weeping figs)

It might be a bit pre-mature to throw in the towel - it was fun while it lasted.

Somehow this works.

I don't see the other entrants responding so I don't know if it is appropriate to respond. Oh well.

cary2fred: I've been described as low-key, understated, and simple with a wink. And so, your descriptions "but not over the top" and "slight edge" resonated with me. The object in the corner (stacked boxes) is in fact an akari light fixture.

MelanieAch: The coffee table is from Knoll.  It also functions as a bench and is very kid friendly (8 nieces and nephews)

brittanylynn and Graphist:  There is a method to my madness. I attempted to create balance with the three prints on the navy blue wall which extends into the open kitchen. There is another print that is similar in size to the one by the paper lamp.  And so, when you look across the full length of the blue wall (living room and kitchen), The Independent does not appear to be to so random and large.  Also, the first photo exaggerates the size of The Independent as I stood on a stool to snap the photo.  At eye level, you may find there is more balance.  No doubt though, the print is a large piece.

The room is intentionally positioned "looking away" from the green wall.  It would have been too overwhelming to see the green upon entry and as a backdrop to my television.  I wanted The Independent to be the focal point when you walk into the room.  And because the green wall is too harsh on its own, I created a single clean line across the center of the wall with the prints to break it up.  Finally, I'm thinking about putting a credenza against the green wall or behind the sofa which would cover The Independent.

I lived in a much larger apartment before moving to Brooklyn where the coffee table and Eames ottoman co-existed right next to each other for several years.  During that time frame, I rarely used the ottoman as a footrest.  When I moved to this smaller unit, it didn't bother me to re-position the ottoman behind the sofa for extra seating.  Plus, I just couldn't part with that coffee table.    However, I do have three perfect replacements waiting should the funds miraculously become available.

lorrinm: In the last photo, I have some dried flowers and a Rauschenberg print with hints of yellow.  Mustard is actually a color I considered to compliment some of my artwork.

cgillespie:  Yes, that is a Jeff Koons Puppy Vase (or as my brother calls it - an umbrella holder).  A search online will reveal a number of galleries and auctions featuring the sculpture.

joseph23:  Only if the room truly reflects the owner.  Sure.

jillya:  Not a solid marble wall.  Marble tiles on the facade.

Thanks again for all the positive comments.

Thanks AT for selecting my entry. I purchased "The Independent" from Other Criteria. The floor lamp is from http://www.noguchi.org/. I'm a fan of akari light sculptures and the subtle mood they create. I appreciate the compliments.

Does anyone know anything about that large green vase? Manufacturer? I've had one for many years and know nothing about it. It may be the lighting but the one I have could be slightly larger and a hint darker.

Two of the more rewarding aspects of having artwork are (1) sharing the artist with others close to you and (2) being able to pass something beautiful and of value to another individual (e.g., your kids). If you're buying for the extra benefit of investment, I suggest exposing yourself to all different styles, researching, educating yourself, and buying the best you can afford.

So you proved you can live in an extremely small space, you've gotten the exposure, and have the bragging rights. Stop rationalizing these conditions and find a bigger place. I guarantee that the value you will get from at least another hundred square feet will make you happier. Sorry to be so critical and not "jealous" for being able to live like that.

Frames (museum quality is worth it). Closets (adds value to your property). Window Shades (protect your valuables from sun damage). Buy quality and cry once.

Keeping it simple. The painted wall looks like a headboard. Add a bit of architectural interest by installing small Tolomeo (Artemide) wall lamps on each side of the bed. http://www.designer-lights.com/products/images/artemide-tolomeo-mini-wall._48626ba5.jpg

And if you want to add a piece of artwork, select something soothing, simple and elegant. The MOMA sells beautiful Mark Rothko prints. http://www.momastore.org/museum/moma/ProductDisplay_Rothko%20Untitled,%20Framed%20Print_10451_10001_57247 Stunning.

Fell in love all over again.

I thought I was the only person who appreciated the functionality and design of the Tolomeo Off Center Pendant. I have two.

Art collection is beautifully focused. Where do you have your pieces framed? In particular, who framed the art above the nesting tables in the hallway (shadow boxes)?
