@wendelah1 - the daisy seems minimal. you could certainly sub in your favourite lactose-free/vegan version so long as it melts.

my partner and i moved directly across the street once for the following points:
-more windows/natural light
-more space
-in-suite washer/dryer
-less centipedes

it was a shame to leave that second apartment... wish it could have moved cities with me.

inviting everyone to the cookie party... if you've had kids. leaves a lot of us out of the mix.

rarely do i see cookie recipes pared back enough for me, but this works!

gypsy is a slang term for romanian people, but drags a travelling cultural through the mud. it's not very nice to use.

i would have loved this when i was young. she'll enjoy it for many years.

my boyfriend and i had a gorgeous apartment on fifth ave in ottawa while we were in university. occasional centipede aside, we were really growing into the place. but then we graduated and moved to toronto to get jobs. our current apartment isn't perfect but it gets fantastic light, it's in a great location and we're doing well at making it 'home'.

just be smart about your friends with dietary restrictions! as a vegetarian, i would stay far away from this. i don't want braised beef finding it's way on my fork. the person who is allergic to mushrooms is in for a trip, too.

i live in a 1 bedroom with my boyfriend in toronto. my portion of the rent takes up about 32% of my income, so i can't complain. we live in midtown, so everything we need is around.
my metro pass takes up about 6% of my take home income, so that's kind of painful, but it is my next biggest recurring cost.

my cat get enough of my ponytail palms. i figure it's a win-win, she gets green in her diet and my palms don't overtake my apartment.

my sister-in-law has a ladder shelf that's filled to the brim with books. while i do wonder about its stability, i think the sparseness of ladder itself lends to the fullness of the books. as long as the books are organized, i like the way it adds a bit of an eclectic wander vibe to their space.

what all these bedrooms have in common is lots of room. would love to see an organized room that had just enough room to walk around a queen sized bed plus a long low dresser. what about the not-yet-dirty clothes? what about the stuff that doesn't fit in a drawer or the closet?

anyways, the above are certainly nice to look at.

a willingness to talk about issues as they affect you, and not just waiting until they make you explode. my live-in boyfriend likes to have the tv on it the background, whereas i prefer to have music on. we now take turns case-by-case.

it's also important to know what battles to pick and how. i had a roommate who complained about how little i did the dishes. i tried and i tried but i could never do them enough for her - she wasn't being unreasonable, i just really hate doing the dishes and i was busy enough that i could avoid the mess. she finally exploded at me, and i told her i was trying, and that i'd try harder. i also offered to pick up the slack elsewhere because if i'm going to avoid the dishes, i may was well find some way to pull my weight. that didn't fly, but we did have a really clean bathroom!

i thought that's what it would be too - how to make the most of going to work when that's your only option. blog may consist of designer kleenex, cute mugs, the choicest teas and maybe a cozy knit that feels like a blanket but would pass as a shawl.

i can call in sick if need be, but boy do regret it the next day when i have twice as much work to do.

or the vice versa, taking a day when your pet is sick.

in the summertime, my cat got into a poisonous plant on a sunday afternoon. i took her to the pet emerg and they kept her over night and flushed her system. she wouldn't vomit, even with inducing her, so they couldn't say that she was 100% out of the woods until more time had passed. so the next day, i took a sick day and stayed home with her. she was fine and i didn't have to worry about coming home to something i didn't want to see. my boss probably thought i was crazy, though.

wow, the benches would be perfect for my parent's dining room, great suggestion truenic! banquet is the only way to make room in their tiny dining room for our big family, but we've put off that project because making it would be such a pain. this could be done in a few hours... toss in some fresh table linens, a coat of paint and some throw pillows for optimum comfort and it would absolutely transform the space.
