cement, then paint it a light colour and do the walls the same, keep away from heavy wooden chunky mantles, get a cute mid century fire screen which draws the eye towards it, get the fireplace working and use it. fire side dining is the best

Star biscuits (or cookies in the US - or STARKEYS to my 2 year old) are a favourite to help with: 2 cups of spelt or regular flour, 1 teaspoon of BPowder, rub in 75 gm of butter, pour in enough apple juice to form a soft dough. kneed and roll out. cut with star shape cutters. bake at 180degrees celcius, until they begin to colour. dust with icing sugar. YUM

best thing to keep a toddler entertained!
My 2 year old Mathilde, helped make "Star Keys" (star biscuits, or cookies). She also loves helping clean, and everytime I walk towards the kitchen now she drags her step stool, and points at herself and says HELP? too cute

Nope - central coffee tables are just junk collectors and calf bruisers. I like to stretch out on my big rug and my daughter runs circles around me. nesting tables are a good choice, kidney shaped tables are great too for your cuppa. we also have our tv on a wheeled trolley so it is moved back out of the way when we are not using it, so its not the focus of the room layout
