Why not wrap the doors with fabric? Seems like the easiest solution to me...

David's answers are spot-on. As a fellow bungalow owner and architect, I'd advise you to look into reclaimed materials (maybe a bathtub on craigslist), and pick the things that are as durable and long-lasting as possible.

It drove me nuts as a kid that my Mom would wash and reuse Ziplock bags (surely a habit she inherited from my Depression-era Grandmother). As soon as I had to start working 4 days a week instead of 5 during this recession, guess who started doing the same thing... Yup - this girl.

Cabbage Lasagna! We accidentally invented this when trying to make stuffed cabbage rolls with red cabbage and realized they're too stiff to roll! We used the same ingredients as the cabbage rolls, but added a little bit of cheese. Very tasty!

I love my LG! The key is making sure you don't put too many clothes in at once, and sending it through an extra spin cycle.

Beets on the grill are actually super simple and delicious! Just rinse them with the skin on, throw them on the grill, and peel the skin off once they're done.

Exactly why we registered for Heath dishes - they're gorgeous, durable, and environmentally and socially sustainable. I wasn't a fan of most department store dish sets (and hate the concept of a pre-assembled place setting) and didn't want something made outside of the States. What a great company Heath is - very personal and friendly to work with!

Although I love the look of painted brick, it's actually not good for the brick. Brick is a material that 'breathes' (especially the mortar) and when it is painted, any moisture that is between the brick and the next layer of the building can't get out. It will also be hard to see the beginning of any damage because it is covered in paint. So, if there are moisture problems, it won't be evident on the exterior until it is really bad.

I would do the rest of your sprucing up and leave the brick and see how you feel. If you still want to paint it and want to take the risk, then I guess go for it.
