ha ha! Perfect timing. I just hacked my lack, my daughter has a doll's house that she likes to play with on the floor, but the pieces tend to end up all over the floor and annoy me. So i grabbed an old, battered lack, pulled the legs off, put some caster wheels on it. It is now the base for my daughter's doll's house! Room for her outdoor doll's furniture and easy to move and vacuum under. Thinking of mod podg-ing some green fabric onto it to act as mock grass...

mum used to print/colour photocopy butterfly photos onto clear plastic sheets (the type used for old overhead projectors) then cut them out. The light shone through the colours and they really popped.

Once my littlies were old enough to 'get it' around 7m/o, we most certainly did let them cry it out! and guess what? they cried for about 1/2 an hour each and that was the end of our sleep dramas. They were happier as well once they were getting more sleep!
Now I know that this doesn't happen for everyone, but please reserve your judgement. The last thing that stressed out, sleep-deprived parents (and their subsequently stressed out and sleep deprived children) need is other parents guilting them.
What works for you and your family is right for you. Some extreme cases of 'crying it out' may be cruel, but lets use our common sense and not judge others.
My kids are now 5 and 6 and are both lovely and confident children who have not been psychologically scarred by being taught how to sleep independently.
Peace to all you amazing parents doing the most important job there is :)
