I want to live in this place so bad! Perfect. I'm really impressed with the use of orange as an accent in a room that at first glance looks somewhat traditional. Orange always seems to be used with a mid-century or mod look, but I think it's fab with cozy, older surroundings as well.

Plus, I'm always a sucker for a dog on a shag rug.

I wish we had better photos so that we could get a better idea of how the entire room works...however, I want to lie down on the daybed beneath the draped fabric, while someone feeds me grapes. This is a good thing.

It's absolutely not to my taste either, but I think Heather did a great job with the color. I really like the yellow as well- more of a golden yellow instead of a lemony shade.

Even in rooms I really like, there's usually a handful of things I would change if I lived there. This place? I don't think I'd change anything.

Beautiful! I especially like the somewhat unusual combo in the dining room.

"The colors that look best on you in clothes are frequently the best colors to design rooms around in your house."

Hmmm. I've found that I consistently choose warm colors for my home, which are utterly hideous next to my skin!

However, I do really like the aqua color with the orange in the bedspread.

That's a great studio! I have a wall of exposed brick in my kitchen, and yep- went with a warm greenish color that changes with the light. During the day, it's a yellowish-green, but at night it has this pretty golden glow. Which looks most excellent against the dark red brick. Ultimately, I also think of the brick and wood flooring as something that reads as neutral. Go with what you love!

Honestly? I think it's fug and weirdly proportioned. And for that price, double fug.

By the way, this also reminds me when some chain store (the Gap, maybe?) was putting out screenprinted, DIY-style shirts with Edie Sedgewick on them. That was just as great to see on some random 13 year old who had no idea who she was.

Seriously? If I saw some kid with a grill and a giganto white t-short sporting one of these in my neighborhood, I'd probably wet my pants, then congratulate him. These are awesome, and I can't wait to see them in every sneaker joint.

Other than to note that I agree with Trumystique's assessment of the study Mr. Green referenced above, I also agree that using this for some sort of studio or utility sink would be most practical. At first glance, I wanted one of these bad, until I too realized that it would probably be a drippy, gross mess soon after it's installed.

As for germs...eh. Coming from a bit of a clean/tidyness freak, I don't worry about germs too much. Unless I've been handling raw meat or am about to slice someone open on an operating table (another note on the study- it was conducted in a hospital- most people don't have reason to live in a sterile environment), plain soap and water will do just fine. I think the antibacterial hype is complete bull.

Heh, I have a friend who described Demi's apartment as "just looking like the definition of credit card debt".

I'm uncertain whether being able to afford a $2000 umbrella means I have arrived, or have completely lost my marbles.

That said, I have a trusty $40 version that I got at Wegmans, and it still looks great going into its 2nd summer. I guess we'll see how long it lasts...

In a similar vein, the City of Philadelphia offers a free, little-publicized (no surprise there) option to stop the delivery of menus, circulars, etc. that everyone seems to loathe getting. Aside from being an annoyance, it's a waste of paper and creates the whirlpool of junk that ends up blowing down the street anyway. Fill out the form at the following link, and they'll send you a sticker to slap on your front door. I did it, and to my surprise, I no longer have to throw out 30 take-out menus every week. Less waste, cleaner streets!

Oh boy, I have this dream freakishly often. However, I'm always amped, which is a nice departure from my normal anxiety dreams. I remember the last space I 'discovered' had *two* extra kitchens, and a many, many rooms for me to redecorate.

I'm also a city dweller, but not a New Yorker....
