I have this plastic box thing that allows me to vent the dryer into the house. It's heat and humidity in the winter that I would otherwise be throwing away. I've put knee high pantyhose over the vents to catch what lint makes it past the regular trap. Pretty neat, ans the clothes dry incredibly fast that way.

I have a telephone bench that serves as a hall tree, of sorts. I can sit and do my shoes while the telephone book cubby holds a file tray that catches all manner of pocket detritus, car keys, odd electronics, and the dog lead.

It's a fabulously convenient little piece of furniture for right by the door.
