Haha! I went to college very close to White Pine Camp- and once got drunk with friends and rowed a canoe across the pond- and broke in to the Japanese Tea House pictured above...
It's gorgeous!

So- The actual sofa pictured in this photo is from Macy's. I have the same one myself- and it's $1000 cheaper than the Petrie.
It's super comfy, nice and long, and is wearing really well.

I was just there asking if they carried them last weekend...

Hopefully soon.

I've moved A LOT in the past 10 years and every time I go through all my belongings and get rid of stuff I don't use and don't need. I like to think of myself as some one who's very efficient and non-emotional when it comes to downsizing.
Books and kitchen gadgets are my achilles heel though. I went through stacks and stacks and stacks of books during my most recent move and think I found about 3 or 4 that I was comfortable getting rid of.
Ho Hum.
Pick your battles I guess.

A few years ago I "taught myself" to drink scotch.
It started with Rusty Nails, and finally was able to develop a taste for it.
A few months later I learned that I shouldn't ever EVER get drunk from scotch.
I don't know why- Bourbon doesn't do this to me- but I turn into a very nasty person when I drink scotch. I say terrible things and turn into a verbal bully.
I'm sure this doesn't happen to many people- but it happens to me.
I finally developed a taste for scotch and now no longer allow myself to drink it.

Oh well.

Last year for christmas I stocked up on some metallic and black sharpies and made my own wrapping paper!
I used the blank insides of brown paper bags and drew designs in silver and black- each gift had its own unique design- some polka dotted- some with stripes- some with funky geometric shapes

They were really beautiful!

I think anything after Thanksgiving is fair game- but I usually wait for a week or two into December before it goes up.
It has to come down on or before New Years day in my mind.

I don't really get why anyone would want to do this- maybe it's just me-

I agree with Norahl- the shutters should come off instead of being painted.
Since they're placed a few inches away from the window they look entirely too obviously decorative and not functional. I think it makes the facade look dated. With the black on the door and panel I think you'll have a fairly modern and sleek look and the fake shutters will look out of place.
As for the trim around and under the windows- I'd say leave them white or paint them another color but not black - and if you plan on leaving the windows on the second floor white you should leave the first floor alone too.
I think the black door will look great though!

I would agree that sanding and painting is a good plan. Since you're only doing one paint job it shouldn't interfere with the closing of the drawers as long as you sand them really well first.

While you're at it you could use some sandable wood putty to fill in where the veneer is broken- which wouldn't work as well if you were staining...
