And yes, I have tried to enjoy "the process" itself, but I don't think I'm quite there yet. :D

Avoiding Catalog Burn-Out: Love the Space You're In

INDEED-- are we spending our moments on earth living in our homes or pursuing a perfectly designed home? Hus and I bought a fixer so have been in project hell and a challenging design process for a year. This post reminds me that, when the necessary things are done, I will have a decision to make-- keep obsessing, or start living? THANKS!! xxoo

Beautifully written.

I have some granite countertops on the way and somewhat regret that everyone talked me out of marble due to the assured staining as we are entertainers who encourage red-wine consumption and don't like to be fussy with our guests (i.e. take off your shoes, don't get near our marble with your wine glass, etc.).

The granite we selected, Kashmir White, is very lovely and not the typical dark slab. But the marble is what made my heart sing. Hopefully I'll find this to be the "right" decision in the end--wine stains often don't look so much like patina as they look like wine stains. :) But this is a really beautiful piece and speaks to the way I like to live, purchase and decorate.

Many thanks for tipping me to this guide. I read it front to back and picked up several ideas for my first time hosting Christmas this year.

Doyogawithme.com is a great free yoga video source. Pretty scenery, great instructors and clearly stated goals/intensity for each video.

However, I was interested in the HOME DESIGN implications of this question. If you have equipment/machines, where do you put it? No one wants a treadmill floating in the bedroom, but it happens. One woman mentioned a utility room, for example. And how do you style that space if at all? For me, these things matter.

I have my green yoga mat and small dumbbells in a basket against a huge mirror propped against a wall in my great room. From the mirror hangs a framed quote about flexibility in life. This is a way I incorporate and encourage my own (admittedly inconsistent) yoga within my living space. However, I would like to have some sort of cardio machine, and that will go to the basement! Will enjoy pondering where, how and all the aesthetic implications.

Good luck to all on your fitness journeys.

Thanks for this beautiful round-up! Love me some local-veg salad, but I let myself get into a boring rut with greens, tomatoes and cucumber. Will try some of these, for sure.

The bathroom is perfection. In the pretty bedroom, I would switch the art so that the smaller oval is above the bed and the large piece is on the (apparently) much larger wall to the left. Seems like better balance to me. Love the sacred details-- a great reminder to incorporate your spirituality (if important to you) into your home space. Professional design found in magazines, etc., is always completely secular so that it can/will appeal to and inspire everyone, so it's easy to forget to infuse this aspect of one's life into the home. :D

Matter of fact, just last week I took this risk, and it was like the room breathed a sigh of relief. It's a long great room, and having the sofa parallel with a long wall (necessary to see fireplace/TV) was making the room feel like a bowling alley. The change also made me realize I need to ditch my long butcher-block dining table; I just picked up a 100-year-old pedestal table that expands to a large oval shape. Taming the long straight lines of the room is making it feel much more homey. :D
