I have almost wall to wall windows (also covering a radiator at the bottom) so I've opted for bamboo blinds, only because they are cheaper than the white roman linen blinds I long for. I like the clean look of blinds (not mini blinds *yuck*) and I have some white ikea sheer drapes on the sides that I can close if I want the blinds open for more light. The side of my apt faces the apt directly beside me, so window film on the lower half of the kitchen window with a shelf at mid level and lots of plants (Rosemary) on the shelf to provide privacy. I like curtains too, but I do agree with some that these over power such small windows. If it was my pad, I'd do the white linen roman blinds!

It's threads like these that make me want to quit AT. People standing on their soapboxes dissing each other about flag hanging or peanuts on planes. If they want to use the flag as a shower curtain or a Superman cape, they have the right to in their own home. Maybe try putting all that energy to being nice to each other instead of having to be right about something or "teach" someone.

It's threads like these that make me want to quit AT. People standing on their soapboxes dissing each other about flag hanging and peanuts. For crying out loud people, it's just a freakin recipe! Maybe try putting all that energy to being nice to each other instead of trying to be right about something or "teach" someone.

Kudos to you both for overcoming those losses & turning them into gifts. Your house is beautiful. Where did you get that lovely sheer, gauzy shower curtain?

Adorable. The only thing I'd change is to have floor length curtains.

Cara, I rented my apartment a few months ago with the same idea in mind, to rent it out when I go travelling. I've finished painting it, now I just have to find a job that allows me to have more than 2 weeks vacation a year!! There's a similar company where I live that charges a small fee but screens all applicants first so you know you won't come home to a trashed place or missing items. And it's longer term, so you can have one person for a whole month or more who is just here on a work assignment or something.

Awesome. I'm not a huge Mid-Century fan, but this place rocks. You know it's good design when you love something that's not even your style.

I think it's just that wall paper - it's overwhelming everything and way too busy looking to cover an entire room in. Just me though.

Very cool apt and cute couple. I also wonder if you guys hate not having an overhead fan above your stove as much as me - on the rare occassions I cook with meat - or frequently, garlic - my bedroom smells like that all night - even burning candles, opening all windows and placing bowls of white vinigar to absorb the smell doesn't help...ugh.

Awesome, but I could see myself having a couple glasses of wine at that table and accidentally sliding my chair back too far...

There are numerous studies about paint colours in hospitals or care facitilites and I do think there is some merit to it. I see photos on AT of people who have painted their apts with vivid, over the top colours and while it works for them, I know I'd never be able to relax staring at neon yellow walls. I think more subdued hues tend to relax a person more than something vibrant. It doesn't really matter when your eyes are closed...but crawling into bed while the lights are still on to read a book? I think it helps if you don't have a big screen tv blaring at you and really bright colours on the wall.
