Maybe the tubes were Sono-Tubes which are used as forms to pour concrete? They're available as wide as 30" diameter "off the shelf".

Heidi, I used to live on Norfolk & Rivington back in the early 80's heyday and I'm glad to hear it still has old school tailors. I hope the pickle shops are still around!

You can try Ruben Studio which is a 5 minute bus right across the river in Union City, NJ and have a fabulous Cuban lunch right next door to his shop. You can see his work at http://rubenstudio.com/

I think $240 is also way too much for cushions that are square. If you don't want to trek to Jersey, have you checked out any shops in the Chinatown area?
