Thanks ecokaren. I feel better now. :)

I put hot water in my ss pans and let it sit on the warm burner after I'm done cooking and I've never had a problem with food sticking. But this is good to keep in mind if I ever get something more stubborn or just want to shine up the finish.

Does the thought of aluminum foil scraping across metal set anyone else's teeth on edge? That provokes a reaction much like nails on a chalkboard.

My parents kept to these rules and I picked them up naturally. I thought it was normal and everyone knew which fork to use and where to put the bread.

If I'm eating with someone or their family I really don't care if they want to use their salad fork for their entree. However, I'm always a bit embarrassed when I bring a friend or date to dine with my family and they've never been taught that you're supposed to wait for everyone to be served until you start eating.

Thanks so much for reminding me of the two blankets I stupidly left with an ex-bf, intending to pick them up someday and never did. And the saddle I left at a tack store on consignment and forgot to either pick up or get paid for.

Well, at least I still have a box full of ribbons. I considered having them made into a pillow or a quilt but then decided the bright colors just don't go with my color scheme. The silver cups are displayed on a shelf but they're in serious need of some polishing. I suck at horse decor.

Tacos may be all about the toppings but you can't beat a homemade corn tortilla for a solid foundation.

What are people doing in the grocery store that makes it the most time-consuming chore? A trip takes me just under an hour and I've got groceries for a week.

I guess it helps that I stay stocked up on staples and dry goods so I don't have to think about having things on hand like breadcrumbs, spices or four different types of vinegar. I tend to buy the same thing every time, mostly vegetables, and find creative ways to prepare them rather than find unusual recipes that require exotic ingredients I don't usually have.

My dad buys much finer wines than I'm willing to pay for and he tells me many of them are moving to screw tops. My cheap wines still use corks although about half of them are fake.

I like the ritual of uncorking a bottle of wine and will miss corks if they're replaced by screw tops. But I guess you can't argue with the bottom line.

I made the multi-grain peasant bread this weekend and it turned out pretty good. But I'm wondering why I can't just turn it into a bread pan right after mixing. It can rise just as well right in the pan, can't it?

I didn't have any white flour so I used white whole wheat and added one tablespoon of vital gluten per cup of flour. It's a little dense but I think that's because I got impatient and didn't let it rise long enough the second time. Probably could have used a little additional yeast too.

Occasionally I get a craving for pancakes but I never have buttermilk on hand. One tablespoon of vinegar per cup of milk, set aside for about 5 minutes, will sour the milk and it's just like buttermilk.

I find pancakes are fluffier if you just barely mix all the ingredients together so it doesn't get overworked and then put it in the fridge for at least half an hour before using. Resist the urge to stir it when you take it out. Just pour right into a hot pan.

Toaster oven! Get some small corningware type dishes and a small baking sheet and you'd be surprised how extremely functional it can be.

I almost never use my regular oven, preferring to make cookies, casseroles and roasted stuff in smaller batches in the toaster oven. It uses a lot less energy and doesn't need to pre-heat.

Huh. I never thought of this but sounds just simple enough to work. I guess I'll be picking up a pack of disposable razors the next time I'm at the store.

I'd be more concerned about the mental health risks of watching tv than the physical. There have been fascinating studies on the way tv affects cognition and neurological responses in the brain. Add a billion dollar marketing industry that aims to sell you things you probably don't need by convincing you you're not good enough with without their product and there's some potentially scary stuff going on.

I stopped watching tv years ago and there's only a handful of shows I keep up with but I view it from sources that don't have commercials. On the rare occasion I'm over at someone's home and they have the tv on the whole format seems rather odd and kind of creepy. I used to think tv programs were entertainment and the viewer was also the station's customer. Now I'm pretty convinced shows are meant to attract eyeballs to sell to the real client, the marketers. And you pay for this privilege with cable subscriptions. Not for me, thanks.

I would love to have a few chickens for the fresh eggs. I just can't bring myself to buy eggs at the store or even the farmer's market because I'm fairly certain that the chicken's living conditions are horrible. While I've become pretty adept at eggless cooking, sometimes it would be nice to not have to find work-arounds.

I'm curious though, to those of you who have chickens, what happens to them when they're no longer producing eggs? Do you still keep them as pets or do you slaughter them for food and would a chicken that old even be good to eat anymore?

I have a similar product but it's more horizontal than upright so it's easier to store with the way my cupboards are configured.

Zucchini pasta is one of my favorite things to make. Long curly strands of vegetables are so attractive and fun to eat without all the carb guilt.

Earlier this summer the next door neighbor's tree came down on the house on the other side. The owner of the now completely demolished rental house had his insurance company pay for repairs.

To add insult to injury his house was completely looted before he could get out there to board it up. Thieves came the first night and stole all the tenant's belongings. Then they came back the next night and took all the fixtures and copper plumbing and wiring.

@sberry, I'm also in Georgia and when I was looking for an apartment in Atl there were plenty that offered recycling services. Prior to that, when I lived out in the sticks the bf would haul all the recyclable stuff out once or twice a month.

It does happen, even here. Maybe you've just had bad luck with landlords.

I knew a girl whose grandma had picked up a habit during the depression of taking the p-trap off the sinks and putting a bucket under the drain. When the bucket got full she watered her garden.

Since I'm paying my own water bill for the first time ever I'm thinking this sounds like a great idea. Sending perfectly good grey water down the drain is expensive.

Completely ridiculous and waste of time and money to go after regulation for a roadside lemonade stand.

Fortunately the solution is simple. Kids with lemonade stands simply need to change their signs to read "suggested donation". If there's no money being exchanged for goods and services they can't be liable for health code violations.

I like all of them except the first one. It feels like something is looming overhead.

However, I'd only paint my ceiling if I could get someone else to do it. I did that once and it was back-breaking, arm-aching work. The result was beautiful though.
