I'm primarily turned off by how dark it makes the kitchen. No matter how practical it may be, making matte black the primary kitchen color isn't my thing. I agree that open shelving can do the same organizationally, without the heavy, dark feeling.

But maybe if you have a cupboard full of ashtrays, there is a reason why you don't have open shelves...

Considering that less than a week ago a potentially innocent man chose to refuse his last meal, this post is in poor taste. Thinking about what you might want your last meal to be isn't the problem, it is the fact that this post ignores that real (maybe innocent) people actually have to make this choice. I love The Kitchn, but I am pretty disappointed in the insensitivity of this casual post about a very real and morbid choice.
