I don't change the art, but I do change curtains twice in a year, one for summertime, and another for the rest of the year.

This video is sort of creepy...
a man with an ax, sitting next to dead coyote, wood splitters and shavings falling all over his living room... *shudders*

What a lovely space: lots of charm, a good mix of femininity and modern-graphic.

The subdued colour scheme makes it look more open and relaxed, even though the space is quite small and there are a lot of little knick-knacks and things to see, the mellow grey and palyed-down colours help to keep it from looking too busy. I love that the walls are painted different colours, which I think really helps to open up this tiny space.

I have the same white elephant tea pot... a personal fav of mine. I found mine at a store called CASA (in central France.)

What a gorgeous space! It's clean and minimal, but still personal and comfortable. This is "modern, done right"!

Oh, THE ART IS FABULOUS ! His personality really comes through with his choices, and they all work beautifully with the flow of the space and limited colour pallets.

I love the mix of warm woods and metal/tech elements. Balanced beautifully with art, creative lighting, and rich colours, the whole rythum of this home is like visual jazz.

This space is so cheerful and adorable. Love it!
And FINALLY, a baby's room with COLOURS! I'm really sad about the grey-and-white nursey trends that I've been seeing lately. Colour stimulates mental, visual, and creative development in babies and small children... kids need lots of colourful stimulation (not bare, bland, sterile looking spaces to stare at,) and these folks have hit the nail on the head.

I would never hang a painting on the back of a door (forcryinoutloud it's a work of fine art, not a poster, and I'm no longer 14.)

I also wouldn't put a painting on a chair, as it seems likely to get knocked over or slide down and smash on the floor.

The idea of framing your sofa with paintings is interesting, but I would take more care in balancing the composition of the works, to make them look better "fitted" into the space, and less hodgey-podgey. Cramming a large painting into the corner of a mishmash art-mural doesn't do any service to the painting. If you have art on the wall, you ought to help it be seen in the best possible way, not the least.

I like the idea of framing a massive swatch of paper, and then hanging a smaller painting in the center; it really set off the work nicely.

The one with the fabric hung behind the painting was really eye catching to me, I think because it was so nicely contrasting. I would be sad to put a hole into a lovely artisan fabric though.

Fabulous! Love the colour, and the rope on the pipe is awesome.
I'm not a fan of empty frames, but I do think the shape works nicely. It would be interesting to hang a conch shell in the center of the frame... or maybe find a portrait of an old ship's captain to put into it.

Maybe adding some lovely patterned paper to the background would make Bibi look less like a science project, and more like a treasured memory.

My 1st thought was : buttery yellow! A sunny, but not overly intense yellow will brighten and wam the space, while still being relaxing. It will also harmonize well with the current art on the wall.

For low-profile, I'd go with sky blue or sage green. For more contrast, I'd pick dark grey or navy blue.

Great idea, but maybe DON'T use a book page that has text about death camps :/ Nothing says "holiday cheer" more than catching a glimpse of words like "brutality" and "high death rate" on the top of your gift.

Nice use of space in the dining room. I love the rug choice and the dark blues and wood tones work well with the cool grey walls. Looks like a relaxing and comfortable room.

The textiles in the living room look strange with the lamp and painting (although the lamp and painting look nice with each other.) It gives me the impression that half of the room was decorated by one person, and half by another, with no communication between them.

I like what's happening in the tiny office space, with the "industrial - meets - nature" elements. The yellow of the chair really livens it up, without being too loud. Great collage of artwork on the floating shelf, too!

DIY to the rescue! Looks great. I'm sure it gives a great vibe to the room, knowing that it's a one of kind thing that you painted yourself!

DIY Painted Faux-Kilim Rug

Clean, open, light-bathed, modern yet (mostly) comfortable, a mix of sophistication, minimalism, and playfulness... I wouldn't call this home "sterile" -- rather it's clear the owner puts a lot of importance on the value of space, light, and cleanliness. There's a lot of emphasis on function and flow, too.

She's added nice little details and nic-nacs without creating clutter, and a few touches of whimsy and "girlishness" I think help to make this house feel more "homey" without overloading on kitch and cutesy. Although the overall look of the home is modular and somewhat minimal, it's those little bits of whimsy that make it feel inviting and lived-in.

Just because it's pop art doesn't mean it's "impersonal" ; it may not be the sort of thing that I would want to hang in my home, but clearly the owner enjoys it, and that's the point: she likes it, and it works as a dash of colour and movement in her otherwise achromatic and modular space.

The two things that rub me the wrong way in this tour are the clear plastic stools in the kitchen (they look totally uncomfortable and slightly silly) and the gold accent on the kitchen light fixtures (I think the gold clashes badly, as the rest of the kitchen has a "cool" pallette; a silver tone would be more harmonious IMO.)
