Henry's Reading Tent Playroom My Playroom

I've thought about a tent, which seems so fun, but until just recently my boys absolutely loved playing with an empty cardboard box. Sadly it ripped, but for more than a year they'd been building forts with it...and I felt like I should let them use their creativity that way rather than have my own fun building them a tent fort. Did you take fort-building fun into account when you decided to make one? Thoughts on that? I love how these look, and wonder if I should look for a new, massive cardboard box or make/buy something like this....

I totally agree on the benefits of renting. I wish there were house valet services that would fix everything that breaks in an (owned) home. My last rental was in a great building with a very responsive landlord, and it was so convenient in so many ways. And then when it wasn't, we moved. And that flexibility is great, too.

Was the litterbox a hack of something? The size and style of that little cabinet are great - I'd love to know the source.

No argument with those who love it, but I find that subway tile reminds me of...the NYC subway. Not really compatible with a clean kitchen.

It can be helpful to tape off on your floor (use painter's tape, which won't leave residue behind) the rug size you're thinking of using. You can leave it for a few days and see how you like the (imaginary) dimensions.

In many parts of DC, front lawns are technically considered public property managed by the homeowner, and you can't put up a fence or wall. So that makes it pretty well off-limits as a safe kids' playspace.

I think a lot of folks here are also forgetting that these days, in many families both parents work and the kids are at daycare until evening. It certainly takes away from the time available for all that front- and back-yard-running!
