The apartment itself looks much like a typical boring rental. So kudos for personalizing the space and making it colorful, fun, and inviting.

I like to keep my place as clean as possible. It doesn't help that my apartment is fundamentally ugly. I've decorated it well and I have nice things, but various elements of my rental are hideous, especially the carpet. Keeping everything clean seems to draw attention away from the ugly.

In terms of other people's homes, I only get physically uncomfortable when the house is horribly cluttered or unbelievably filthy, or both. On the other end of the spectrum, however, I can get a little uncomfortable in homes that are overly clean and sparse. I feel like I can't relax and be myself in that kind of environment.

Whoa. Is that wallpaper perfectly matching the fabric or is the fabric being used as wallpaper?

And, yeah, my entire apartment could fit in that bedroom.

Wood-burning stoves are much more efficient than fireplaces. They can actually heat several rooms, if not the entire house.

The Seattle area had serious and long-lasting power outages in the dead of winter a few years ago, and several of my friends only made it through by using their stoves/fireplaces. Does Montreal never have this problem? Requiring removal of homeowners' only source of heat in the event of a power outage strikes me as unreasonable.

My father's fourth wife abided by that rule and used the second full bathroom rather than share their en suite master bath. Then I moved in, and she thought it was a better arrangement to share a bathroom with a 13-year-old girl. Yeah, that didn't work out so well.

Bathrooms are my second reason why I'll do everything possible not to live with roommates again. Raiding the refrigerator is the first one. I'd love to see an AT post with suggestions on how to negotiate with a roommate who refuses to buy/cook his or her own food.

I lived without a garbage disposal for years now and I hate it. I've never been one for throwing anything more than a small scrap or two into the disposal anyway, but I'm fed up with having to dump a few grains of rice from the sink strainer into the garbage. What I wouldn't give to be able to just dump that into the sink. I'm also no fan of the slime that develops on the strainer within a mere couple of days.

But, in all seriousness, could you imagine how clogged that thing would get. I can't even deal with those soap-dispensing dishwashing brushes. They don't dispense the right amount, and they get scummy and clogged fast.

Interesting. The landlord seems to think that good tenants (i.e. the original tenants) are a dime a dozen in this economy.

I have a lemon curd jar that I use for spare change and an IKEA glass container for my laundry quarters. I also use a large vase for storage, but I use that for my cat's toys.

It looks to be the same size as my apartment, approx. 450 square feet.
