Is that a Paint By Numbers of JFK?! Nice place you gots there. I have the same globe on a stick! I wish I could manage that sort of eclectic style. I get too focused. I love that your shop uses the pharse "Vintage Modern" in its name! I've been championing the term Vintage Modern over Mid-Century Modern for a while because, well...are Barcelona Chairs mid-century modern? Nope. But they are...Vintage Modern! Ah Ha! See what I did there?!?! Andy & Andrew's Vintage Modern House Tour |

So did you recently move to Chicago from St. Louis or have ya just figured out how much cheaper second hand treasures are down here? Chicago has some great shops but don't bother going in them without a big fat wad of cash! I'm sure there are lots of great cheap second hand shops in Chicago but I just haven't had enough time up there to find them. Shelby's Sophisticated Studio Loft House Tour |

I'd kill (well...maybe a tomato) for that fireplace. It's so "Shag"! Embrace it and you will learn that you really loved it all along. Remeber...there is a thin line between love and hate! Suggestions For Living Room & Fireplace Makeover? Good Questions |

The "Wave House" is one of those rare home that I can't see anybody ruining with any amount of gutting, rehabbing or poor choice of furnishings! It's just so intrinsically cool that it'll make any choices the future owners make cool by association! (I'm hoping!) Love it to death. I love finding vintage modern in unexpected places. While on vacation we traveled through rural South Carolina and seemed to notice an abundance of informal roadside flea markets. We stopped at one and I found a pair of Folke Palsson / Mobler dining chairs ($23!). Modern Manor: Creating Homes With Personality Store Profile |

Just got back from Vacation @ Myrtle Beach SC. I'm in "Both" camp! Spend a few hours in the surf and then relax in the pool / hot tub. Nothing compares to getting beat down by mother nature in the ocean but when you can't take her no more...head for the swimming pool. I actually prefer the smell of chlorine when out for a swim. Growing up in the midwest...that's what I associate with summer. That and the smell of suntan lotion! Quick Summer Survey: Beach or Pool? |

Ha! I was just looking at the weather forecast for Oakland last night and wondering how it could be that in July it's not going to get up to 70 all week! We go on a two week summer road trip every year and last year we spent about a week in Oakland / San Fran. It was freakishly cool there then as well. We are headed out on our two week road trip vacation today as a matter of fact! Headed first to Chicago for the weekend, then to Eastern Kentucky (staying a few nights at the Wigwam Village #2 motel!) to do some whitewater rafting and such then over to Myrtle Beach for some fun on the beach. Love the Seafoam Green tile in the kitchen. The color you painted the cabs goes nicely with it. I might have chosen a little darker, more chocolatey brown myself. The bathroom is crisp and clean. I'm not usually excited by basic white in vintage bathrooms but yours looks great. Your mix on vintage modern furnishings and the classic craftsman style of your home works great. The only sore thumb might be the globe light above the dinner table. Not sure that works for me. Beautiful and subtle otherwise. Anne & Jake's Bright Colorful Midwestern Home House Tour |

That is so clever. AT should host contests consisting of re-purposing items like this, letting the readers vote on the best. Pick an easily attained item (like a piece of thrift store luggage!) and ask readers to make something great out of it while keeping the integrity of the item. ReadyMade magazine (RIP) used to do something like this. Globetrotting Furniture: Upcycled Luggage Seating |

If anybody's interested in finding shops in the St. Louis MO. area that specialize in Danish Modern, Retro, Mid-Century and Vintage Modern you can check out my blog and look on the right side bar for "Pages - Places to Shop For Retro in St. Louis Mo! Status:...". I have compiled a number of posts of some of the places that I tend to find good items. Some are thrift stores, some are dedicated shops and some are antique malls. I'd make it simple and provide a direct link but I've been informed that this is against AT policy. City Guides: 40 Local Shopper's Guides for Travelers |

Again with the 1stDibs. You know, I just picked up a set of four Paul McCobb Perimeter dining chairs from the Goodwill for $5 each. There is a set on 1stDibs priced at $3,750. Rrrriiiiigggghhhhttttttt. Quiz Answer: The Chair That Costs More Than a New Car! |

Has anyone here ever purchased anything from 1stDibs? I'm wondering because a LOT of people like to use it as a comp. (I saw one just like mine on 1stDibs for $$$$$) but is it GOOD comp.? A better (though not perfect) comp. is to look at the Completed Listings on eBay. That I think is a little closer to what you're likely to realize if you were to sell your piece. Even then one has to temper their expectations with a dose of reality. Being in St. Louis means that I'm less likely to get Top eBay Dollar for the same item as someone in LA. BTW, you have to have access to an eBay account to look at completed listings. It's the only reason I actually have one. You Paid WHAT for That? Best Secondhand Finds Ever |

Like lepidoptery, my first (minor) issue is with the coffee "table". I just thought it needed a piece of glass cut to cover the entire assemblage. Also, I'm kinda digging the fireplace! Wondering what is in store for it. Will it just be 86'd or are is it being replaced with something else? Jen & Todd's Modern Masterpiece House Tour |

We started off with the Round pedestal Broyhill Brasilia table and chairs set but I couldn't stand not being able to push the chairs all the way under the table (the chairs contacted the base). I am lucky enough to have an acquaintance who is also into the Brasilia and just happened to not only have a recently refinished Brasilia Rectangular table but also badly wanted my Pedestal table! Swap. The chairs push nicely under the Rectangular Brasilia table and my sanity is intact. Furniture Focus: Rectangular Dining Room Tables |
