4000 sq ft in Manhattan? Really? If I had wanted to look at Elle Decor, I would have gone to that site. If you have a job on Wall Street, millions of dollars, a nanny, and a personal assistant, then you, too, could have the dream home featured here. (Yes, I am one of the 99%.) "Formal lounging"? What in the world is "formal lounging"? It looks like a hotel lobby. I have much more respect and appreciation for those who achieve great design on a middle-class budget. People across America are losing their homes as the wealthy become wealthier. Please, AT, decide what you want to be. Doryn's Glamorous Return to the City House Tour |

Elegant, warm, comfortable, and inviting--not at all generic. The "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters, Noguchi tables, Nelson lamps, and Eames chairs that I see in every other AT tour seem much more generic to me. Nancy & Alan's Colorful Playa Vista Condo House Tour |

It's a scam. But, don't rule out craigslist--I found my last two apartments in Chicago that way. Try looking in other neighborhoods away from downtown. Edgewater is up and coming, but you still should be able to find something more affordable there. And you'll be close to the El--a short ride to downtown. The closet is inspired! I agree with the suggestion above regarding an antique desk or table for your office area. But, as I know from my own home, it's a work in progress--you can't do it all at once. Thanks for sharing your home. You gave me some wonderful ideas! Ryan's Georgetown Vintage Americana House Tour |

This home captured my attention and my imagination. It is so warm and inviting. I love the green ceiling! Now I'm going to get that kilim rug... My favorite image: the still life in the kitchen with the wooden bowls in front of the window. I can't even look at the yard (I don't have one in Chicago...). OK, what about Little House on the Prairie? Seriously. Growing up in the 70s we never missed an episode. It was so cozy and comfortable--Laura and Mary snuggled under the quilts upstairs, and Ma and Pa in the downstairs bedroom. And the barn and horses--that's where I wanted to live.
