I've lived in not-quite-upstate NY (Hudson Valley) my whole life.When I was a kid,lilac bushes grew along the brick walls of the apartment buildings where I lived,and there was a lilac bush in my grandmother's yard.Lilac's have always been my favorite flower.One year I cut a stem of lilacs,put them in a wicker basket,and gave them to my mother for Mother's Day.I think I was 8.

Late to the discussion but I have to say something.Who is being self-righteous? Who said there was anything wrong with people who live in these places? I didn't see that anywhere.High rises/skyscrapers,not just this one but any I happen to see or pass by,make me feel nervous.That is not being judgmental or self-righteous,it's just how I feel.For me it's not about living near too many people or the view or whatever,it's just that it seems so dangerous.What about a fire,power outage,out-of-order elevator,or God forbid a 9/11 type thing happening? It just scares me.If others are happy living in these kinds of places,that's fine,but I don't think there is anything wrong with how I feel. Anyway,everyone's allowed to have an opinion.
