How old are your kids? You could stencil one wall with a suitable muted pattern to dress it up a bit or paint it a different color and then hang a collage of different artwork - for kids and adults - unified by frames of similar color or style. The wall color does look good with the bedding but you need to add interest or else it would be too muted on the whole. You could add black-&-white patterns in pillows and/or tie-in the same or deeper shade of the wall blue color in pillows, pattern would help. It should look cohesive. If you paint walls dark do the same with the pipes but in a metallic finish - giving the room an industrial edge. Or if you want to take away attention from the pipes you should paint them the same color as the walls (whatever you decide the color to be). Paint Walls a Dark Color with Exposed Pipes? You would really need to move things around to see what setup works best - swapping living and dining area, moving couch against long wall or facing it, etc. before you go out and purchase additional pieces. But it would be a great idea to incorporate the bookshelf into your space more (behind the red chair).
