I have white Caesarstone in my new SF kitchen, and it's almost the only thing about my kitchen that I regret - it's very, very hard to keep it looking clean. So many things make marks on it, and the only way to get the marks out is hard work with a cleanser with bleach in it. If I had to do it again, I'd get a version that had some sort of speckles - that would avoid a situation where the only time your counter top really looks good is when you've laboriously and lovingly scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed it. This is of course not a criticism - the work you are doing is fantastic! My only thought was to share some hard-earned information, to the extent it's useful to you. I started working from home a few days every week when my son was still at home, and I started again when I was moved from a private office into a cubicle. I come in on days when meetings are scheduled, but not otherwise. It's a short cab ride in, if I need to go in unexpectedly. I think it's a great thing for introverts like me - I get enough interaction with others on the days that I'm in the office, and some time to get back to square one again when working at home. I think it would be tough for those who struggle with discipline - you need to be mindful of and honest about your own tendencies. I find it way easier to get into the "zone" at home, and really get things taken care of, especially if the task involves writing something long and complicated. I find it useful to have something else going on, like a few loads of laundry, to make sure that I don't sit down for too long at a time. I always try to make a clear break between work and home - once I'm done, I put everything I was working on away, which helps create a separation. A Work-From-Home Mini Manifesto |

Nearly everyone in our organization was recently moved into a new building, and into cubes. I used to have a very small but completely personalized office - my own comfy chair and ottoman, pictures, lamps, you name it, on the theory that if you were going to be there for that long, you might as well be comfortable and at home. But I cannot get myself to decorate a cubicle, much less fight with the design police over the decorations I might choose. My solution so far is to telecommute every possible moment. 7 Ways to Make Work a Little More Like Home |

I shared a room with my two younger sisters for many years - from the time the youngest was a baby still in the crib, with me and my middle sister in bunkbeds. I have only good memories. And we all learned how to sleep with some disturbances, which helped us all. Do Shared Toddler/Baby Rooms Work? Good Questions |

Just one thing to add - the best thing I ever did in this arena is to force myself, when moving, to go through every single thing BEFORE putting it into a moving box. Now I know that when my stuff comes out of storage at our new place, I won't need to do another huge purge of stuff. I'm willing to bet, though, that after having lived without a bunch of my stuff for a while, I'll be willing to part with even more . . . If you've got an accurate, up to date list of your projects and next action items, you don't ever have to face the out of sight, out of mind dilemma. I've found that the more effort I put into making sure I have all my ducks in a row in my to do list, the more free I feel to put things away. 30 Day Organizing Challenge: 30 Days Later |

I had exactly this problem in my now sold but not forgotten 1970's condominium. I measured the space once the wet bar was removed (old, faded and peeling grass cloth! Ack!) and hunted around on the internet to find a bookcase that would fit. It took no time at all to find a really nice bookcase with glass shelves that fit right into the alcove. I dressed it up with cookbooks and pottery, and that was that. Extra book storage, lovely piece of furniture, done. Removed 80's Wet Bar - Now What? Good Questions |

It's funny - my fantasy furniture object was always and forever the Togo, but when we were in Boston in March, we wandered into the shop and tried it out, and now, it's just over for me. We're tall people, and it just doesn't work if your spine is that long. I'm actually relieved to have this particular unrequited love affair over now - I can move on at last.
