I like to chop them up to make a paste and spread on my veggie burgers (usually black bean burgers) instead of ketchup. This goes especially well with cheese, avocado, lettuce, caramelized onions, and tomato.

In Thailand, they wrap hard-boiled quail eggs in a wonton wrapper and deep fry them, so the wonton wrapper gets a little crunchy. They have a sauce that is sweet/salty/spicy for dipping. It sounds weird but I thought this was one of the more interesting street snacks that I, as a vegetarian, could eat.

I drink copious quantities of tea but never coffee (it is too bitter), and this tip really upsets me! I agree with the previous posters that you cannot get the coffee flavor out of the tea. We have one of those Keurig single cup coffee makers at work, and someone thought they were being nice by providing tea pods as well as the coffee ones. I tried it once, but NEVER AGAIN! The tea just tasted like coffee and it was horrible. Also, using the wrong water temperature and/or steeping time to make tea will lead to tea that is either flavorless or terribly bitter and astringent. Water kettle + french press and teapot is definitely the way to go if you don't want to have a bunch of appliances.

I would like my printed cookbooks to come with a code or something to get a discount on the corresponding app. Sometimes if I realize that I need to stop at the store on the way home to make dinner, I wish I had my cookbooks available to scan quickly to make sure I pick up all of the necessary ingredients for the recipe I've been meaning to try... I usually have my iPad with me when I'm out ad it would be fantastic to be able to whip it out and access my cookbooks.

In Thailand, a single quail egg would be wrapped in a wonton skin and then fried until the skin crisped up (like cheese wontons but with a hard-boiled quail egg). They served these with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. These were one of the few vegetarian street snacks I was able to find with any regularity.

Celery is great in stir fries (think kung pao). You could also use it to make broth or soup, or to make stuffing.

I have three dogs who are all blowing out their coats at this time of year. I hit them up with the Furminator for as long as they will let me, but it still doesn't get everything. I can sweep quite thoroughly and the floor will be furry 2 hours later. I just don't cook for others. :(

If you don't want to have fake meat, you can always stuff a vegetable... squashes and pumpkins are the first things that come to mind. They can be stuffed with a bread-based filling, other vegetables such as cabbage, or rice pilafs. To the stuffing base you can add fruits and nuts for extra bursts of flavor and texture.
You could also do lentils in puff pastry or something similar. Or one of the seasonal vegetable lasagnas (chard and butternut squash). Or some other yummy casserole.
I hope that helps!

I have a dog who likes to steal and chew on towels, so I have a towel holder similar to this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14789626 that is on a high cabinet door. Living with counter-surfing dogs makes you get creative.

There are lots of options beyond sandwiches for lunch, if your kids are adventurous eaters.
Kids like food on skewers. Kebabs are always fun.
You could always make fresh spring rolls with veggies and fruit.
Edamame is great if they will eat it.
Bean, grain, and pasta salads are filling and taste good at room temp.
Chicken or soy nuggets with a favorite sauce
Gazpacho could work, too, if you have a watertight container.
Wrap up the occasional leftover slice of pizza and some fruit or baby carrots for a quick and easy lunch.
Healthy mini-muffins could be a good addition to a lunch.
Coin-sized pancakes or french toast sticks with syrup for dipping
You can make themed lunches, where every food is the same color or starts with the same letter, or is similar in shape.

You could make a lot of things...
1.taco salad (meat eaters could add beef, veggie people can have fajita veggies and beans)
2. enchiladas (meat or cheese)
3.nachos
4. a rice and black bean casserole with tomatoes, bell peppers, garlic, and onions topped with cheese (serve with green side salad and pineapple)
5. meat tamales and bean/cheese tamales
6. quesadillas (chicken ones and mushroom/veggie ones)

... The list could go on. Whatever you do, be sure to have some fresh guacamole!

DURIAN!
Bleaughhh! I bought some in Bangkok and could not stand the smell or the taste. I made the mistake of throwing it out in the trash can in my guest room. When I came back a few hours later, the whole place smelled completely rotten, and I couldn't stand to be in the room for hours, even after we removed the offending trash can from the room! Ugh! Don't be fooled into eating one! It's completely wretched.
