I see a retro bar setup and storage area. Look to install floating low cabinets from Ikea surrounding a retro Midcentury modern bar cabinet. Too bad the area isn't equipped for a sink.. Open floating shelves above the cabinets will finish the space off...Then finish by using sconce lighting to highlight the space. No, you are not the only one that can't stand these two designs! I saw the original broadcast on HGTV.. Absolutely HIDEOUS!!!! From the cool 60s pair of chairs they bastardized to that filthy rusty and horrendous locker cabinet to those blue barstools at the counter. Have your landlord have your electrical socket checked for safety. Use a powerstrip. I would advise finding an electric fireplace to fit the dimensions within the fireplace insert.
