I use half lard, half butter. The cost of home rendered lard is hard to beat, and I like the texture of the mixture. I add the butter for the flavor.

For canning: I would contact your local Master Food Preservers before canning these. Onions are really low acid and take more vinegar and sugar that is called for to make them safe. Pressure canning would be the way to go to ensure a safe product

I have to say I own the glass "cutting board" and I love it! I use it as a cheese platter, trivot, wine station and to hold fruit. It may not be the greatest cutting board, but it gets a lot of use in my kitchen
