What an amazing steal -- $30??? But oh dear! What have you done? The patina on that bench was STUNNING. I am all for painting most things white...but this piece deserved to be left alone. Poor bench. :(

Keep it fairly monochrome, with varied textures and some reflective surfaces. A bit of contrast here and there, along with the textures will provide visual interest. I am seeing an L-shaped, armless sectional hugging the walls on the far end of the room; pay close attention to measurements when purchasing. Something armless will keep the eye uninterrupted -- as would a tight seat and back. Leather would help reflect light. Furniture on legs will allow your eye to see more floor, keeping the space as airy as can be. TV on the wall just perpendicular to the bedroom door. Another (soft, armless) chair in the corner, angled next to and slightly in front of the media console. Perhaps a striped rug that runs the width, not the length, of the room might help widen it. Don't be afraid of large accessories, art, mirrors. A large piece will often appear less cluttered than a few small pieces. Lighting in all directions will be your friend. Torchieres for up-lighting, table lamps for ambience, task lights where needed. Perhaps your media console will be high enough to store a couple ottomans below for extra seating? Good luck!

That upper porch trim would look much more stately if the same deep brown color as the roof, rather than any color or the white it is now. Accents in a rich persimmon would complement the peach tone of the house. Some hanging and potted plants (textured and/or bold colored -teal? goldenrod? spring green?- pots) could be added for more color, interesting shapes -- and to soften the facade. Since winter is approaching, the plants are limited but do-able. Good luck!

My first thought was bye bye to the mantle and replacing it with a chunky wood that spans the entire width and even wraps around. Glad to see many others agree!

This of course will depend on the style of home and the decor you are after -- but it certainly would work well with any style: modern, traditional, rough luxe, contemporary, retro, etc. Good luck!

The dark with the brick is such a rich and classy look. Having hailed from Chicago with all those neighborhood brick facades, they were always the ones that caught my eye. Benjamin Moore makes an amazing color called Dragon's Breath. I used it in my living room and kitchen -- looked fab against the exposed brick wall and dark timbers. Dependent on the light, it goes from a murky dark green to near black. Use an oil base exterior and give it a glossy luster and I think you'll have a winner.

I did the same thing to my bathroom in my last apartment. I changed the colors around to a bronze and pearl against a cream background, and enlarged the print by a LOT (each hexagon measured about 2 feet). Took me 40 hours to tape it off and only a few to paint--Lordy, the math actually lined up and I was able to go all the way around the four walls. Certainly work, but man was it an awesome juxtaposition to the clawfoot tub and pedestal sink!!!! Miss that bathroom, I do indeed. Fab job! Fab pattern!

Also! I agree with the comment above..if you keep the cabinets white, change out the solid red banquette.

I see this space in a couple ways.

Walls, cabinets and base of the banquette in the turquoise. Replace the pulls.

Or carry the red from the banquette onto the cabinets and the base of the banquette as well. Turquoise on the walls and new pulls.

If you opt to keep the cabinets white, then put the turquoise on the walls.

Whichever you do, I think the space deserves some great pillows and/or window treatments with a fabulous pattern/patterns (with white and a number of other colors combined). Perhaps a large geometric combined with a tighter allover pattern --- And a great rug.

Stay away from the grey. Unless you have an amazing eye and feel comfortable in finding THE grey, I fear it will just come out blah. This coming from someone who loooves an amazing neutral.

If you were to replace anything in the kitchen, my vote is the floor.

Best of luck to you!! Don't be shy!

Agreed!! Leave the grass cloth! It does a beautiful job of adding texture and highlights the architecture quite well. Personally, if those light floors aren't carpet, I'd leave them as well. I think that fireplace only needs a good de-cluttering, some firewood stacked to repeat the tone and texture of the walls, and some more stately accessories. Might I recommend ditching the cornices and adding some more casual curtain panels raised to just below the crown and updating the sconces?

Uccellini: from the drain to the top of the organizer is about 76" and the tallest "shelf" of the organizer is about 14" below that. So for me, at 5'7", it's not a stretch. Come to think of it, that shelf is at my mom's height and, as much as she would hate it, pretty good noogie territory from my vantage point. So yeah, no real reach.

How about a rope railing installed atop the existing railing? Save for the ring upshoots, it would be easily removed for moving bulky items through there. Or the removable cap idea is a goody as well if you'd like a heftier, beefier look

I simply used a store bought stainless steel hang-over-the-shower-head type organizer that had removable suction cups. In order to stabilize it, I attached it to the riser with a translucent zip tie. The zip tie easily hides behind your soaps and the unit does not budge or slope!
