I had no idea this was a thing! Crazy. I sprout lentils yearly for norooz to grow grass. I'd love to learn more about this.

I love your use of open space. I understand people sometimes find it hard to imagine allowing so much open space but it really can prove useful (especially so I'd imagine with a 1-year old).

Sorry to see all the negative comments. You and your child are lovely - as is your home. The jealousy people demonstrate can be very sad to witness.

Would it be possible to get a close up of the backsplash? I love the idea of cutting terrible 4inch backsplash down and then tiling above that line.

@birch - While I agree that you know your friends better than any of us I suspect most people would take a link to this article as an insult. To me (and I host a lot) it would come across as a little passive aggressive but mostly just very tackless.

Yes - its a great article but to send it on would be rude.

I'd also love to hear about repair costs. We have a shelter cat with some behavioral problems who has frequently urinated in two corner spots (before we discovered vinegar would move him) and the floors are damaged (but not smelly). Side note - I listed to a friend who said cats hate foil - turns out my cat does not hate foil - he loves it and urinated under the foil - the foil helped to further degrade the wood floors!

1 avocado
2-3 cups fresh cilantro leaves
1/2 red onion
4 tbsp EVOO
juice of 1/2 a large lime
salt & pepper to taste

Blend in a food processor - thick and delicious!

@erikakn: Do you have any pictures of the framed result? I'd love to see it.

Does anyone have advice about how to hang a 40inch by 40inch Persian wedding table cloth. Its quite heavy (maybe 5 lbs) of gold thread and material. I went to Michaels and even with a 50% off coupon the only options that they said they could offer were in excess of $1000 to frame it. I was considering having a strong backing sewn on and using a pocket pole and putting it up unframed if need be.

Vidya: I might try what you mentioned earlier. Thanks!

I bought this exactly same thing at HomeGoods for around $18 a few years ago. Since I've long run out I now either blend my own or by refills from Spice House.

Without a floor plan I'm just guessing that the "dining room" area is immediately adjacent to the "living room" - assuming that the pictures are taken from the dining room I'd agree with other posters that you need to divide up the space.

I'd leave the couch where it is (or perhaps pull it a bit farther from the sliding glass doors if you can afford the space) and add two very small chairs or perhaps one chair & a half to create an L shape. Perhaps this: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/klyne-ii-chair-and-a-half/s220663

I know it seems like you are making the space smaller - but its already small. I live in a similar sized place and dividing up the space makes it look significantly better. That said regardless of whether you decide to follow the L shape I'd highly recommend you remove or simply cover the blinds over the glass doors, you have a beautiful couch, nice artwork and the blinds suddenly interject the 1980s into the room.

Depending on what you store (or need to store in the table below the tv have you considered getting rid of that piece? Perhaps you could store your electrics (assuming you have any besides the tv) in something like this:

Good luck! Really lovely couch.

Hex Appeal - 5" White Hexagon - I'd use the tile in my two small bathrooms. I suppose I like it because I find it visually engaging, the tile doesn't just blend into the background like so many I've looked at (especially from big box stores).

I bought this:

$100 later and its sitting in my storage unit. Its way to high (like built for a 300 lb man big). That said my tempur pedic mattress was the best purchase I've ever made (maybe they just don't go together?).

No. Very tacky. I don't even hang my PhD.

That said it is the norm in many big law firms to hang your law school diploma (so my husband does that).

Lovely. The paint colors and design detracts from the floor in a great way. Love the striped walls.
