Never. Ever. Checking who is calling to know whether it's someone I may know sounds a definite invasion of privacy. I don't even allow my children to pick/check my calls. Actually, to touch my phone unless I ask them specifically to bring it to me. Phones and handbags are totally off limits to everybody. I'd never touch either at any friend's, no matter how close friends they are, and would be very upset if they did without my asking them to. Do You Answer the Phone at Someone Else's Home? |

Almost all of them look so staged! do they really live/sleep in these rooms? I doubt it, or they are bound to be very boring people. Can't believe they are designers. I definitely will do my own myself! (as if there were an alternative, since I'm living in the African bush). Getting Personal: 15 Designers' Bedrooms |

Seconded, Elaine. All these rooms evoke greyish skinned sad kids with blueish shadows under too big eyes. Modern Kids: Black & White Rooms |

Oh no! not on my watch. I'm definitely a woman, but I am not into the pinkish girlish thing at all! Fashionable or not, I'm into clay, earth, sand tones. Sorry, but I hope it won't catch too much (afraid it will, though...). "The New Prettiness": The Resurgence of Traditional Femininity in Decor |

Kakugori, my experience as a French person having lived most of my life in 19th and 18th century buildings is that trumeau mirrors always are on top of mantles. Maybe it's a bad idea, but one that was replicated consistently over several centuries. Quick History: Trumeau Mirrors Retrospect |

Wow this is an eye opener for me! I surely never even thought of having a reminder for things like turning or flipping mattresses. You guys are so roganised! I turn and flip each week when I change the bedsheets. After experimenting with spring and foam mattresses of different densities, I've now settled for something that seems to suit me perfectly: a localised version of a futon on tatamis, except that the "tatamis" are two thick traditional Ghanaian reed mats on which I put a 2in high density sheet of foam. I've never slept better. And it's cheap too! I think altogether it's something like $35. It's Time: Turn Your Mattress |

It's fun! I was a bit amazed at how many people found it dangerous above all. Being French, I guess I'm much more relaxed. Oddly (or not so oddly) enough, the people who created this great room seem to be French too! Look Up For Storage Potential |

Brilliant list for people who live in an apartment. It would have worked for me when I was in a 400 sq ft one-bedroom apartment in Paris 20 years ago. Alas, I am now in a much bigger house, with 2 dogs and a cat, 1/4 mile from the ocean, in an untarred (sand) street, so you can imagine the sticky salty thick sand dust that finds its way into my house every single day. On top of everything else, I have louvres, meaning that each window has a minimum of 18 glass blades. How To Clean Your House in 20 Minutes a Day for 30 Days |

Back to the comments on how a shower without walls, screen, or curtain will never be comfy... I live in a country where the weather is warm year-round, so it is not a concern. I'm building my first house and this sleek concrete look has been on my mind from day one. This definitely reinforces my will to see it happen! Modern Bathrooms from Around the Web |

Most everything (I LOVE sleeping on a straw mat on the floor, believe it or not; had to for a few weeks last time I moved, then the movers put the bed in my bedroom and I've been considering dismantling it ever since) except my Ikea desk chair and a decent desk. I'm not too much into furniture and ideally would only have mats and floor cushions (and built-in closets). I like things quite radically uncluttered. Not my parents, but my sister was an architect in charge of maintenance of property for a big university and when they refurbished one of their lecture theater, completely furnished with original Prouvé tables and chairs, everything went to the dump and uncomfortable and passé. Nothing she could tell them could make them change their minds. She salvaged what she could for her (unfortunately tiny) apartment... I Can't Believe My Parents Got Rid Of (Insert Item Here)... |

I have a huge desk chair I bought at Ikea in the early 90s. I've dragged it from France to Senegal to Ghana to Cameroon and now back to Ghana, including one or several moves within each country. I'm 6ft2 and back in the early 90s it was extremely difficult to find appropriate seats for tall people. This one is incredibly comfortable, even though the leather has suffered a lot with the temperature, humidity, sand dust and salty breeze (and a dozen moves). I can sit in it for 10+ hours a day without pains, and have had a few naps in it too. That's how comfortable it is! I bought office chairs since, but none was good enough and I still use this one daily. The Chair I Just Can't Live Without Despite Its Lack of Style |
