My son is allergic to dairy, so I feel your pain! We used to use Willow Run margarine as a butter substitute, but it was discontinued. Earth Balance just doesn't compare, taste and texture wise, but it works ok. Dairy-Free Baking Recipes That Aren't Vegan or Gluten-Free? Good Questions |

When I'm at my most organized (ha), I plan meals around the idea of commonality - like, if I want to make something with cilantro, I add another meal that also uses cilantro so that I can use up the bunch. Mike, you can make a paste of baking soda and water and I'm sure that'll help. I use this on my glass-top stove to remove scorched spots and it works great there, too. How Can I Clean My Oven Without Using Harsh Cleaning Products? Good Questions |

I love using edible nasturtium flowers on cakes/cupcakes - you can even 'sugar' them to add another level of delicate appeal. I can usually find them in the packaged herb area of my grocery's produce section. Ideas for Dressing Up Gluten-Free Vanilla Cake? Good Questions |

My East Village apartment (and this was 1999) was smaller, very old, smelled of heating oil wafting up from the basement, with brick wall views out every window, for $1k. This looks like a bargain in comparison, especially since it's modern, clean, and new. SF's Micro-Apartments: 220 Square Feet for $1500 |

Right before closing on our current house the previous owners decided to use the self-clean feature on the oven - which locked it completely for days, until they paid to have it repaired. You can imagine I've never taken advantage of self-clean since. When Not to Use Self-Clean on Your Oven |

Our Wegmans has a similar packaged fresh herb selection, but twice as expensive, unfortunately. Another decent option is a tube of fresh, pureed herbs that sells for about $4.99 - they last for a lot longer, however, good for winter. It's not ideal, but a good way to add a bright note of fresh cilantro or basil to a sauce off-season. Check It: Fresh Herbs For Just A Buck! |

I agree - parchment paper is key. I've learned that the only way cakes/brownies/etc come out of a pan clean every time is to 1) grease/butter the pan, 2) lightly flour over the butter and tap out extra, and 3) cut a square of parchment to fit the bottom of pan. I think having a well-designed shower curtain and a simple rail would be a lot more attractive than a drip-drying toilet cover hanging on the wall, personally. I've seen the showerhead/drain overseas quite a bit, and if there's any barrier at all, it's usually a curtain and rail. What's the Flaw with This Master Bathroom Idea? Good Questions |

I'm with the other commenters who use the salad forks and small spoons frequently. They're scaled just right for my kids to use as primary cutlery, and I use them for other things, too - salad forks are perfect little whisks for eggs. Teaspoons still dole out a neat spoon of sugar for coffee. And call me old-fashioned, but I still like setting a table for a party with all the silverware - casual as it may be in style - because it just looks more 'complete'.
