I prefer to watch a small screen that has a good quality than to watch a big screen that has a very bad quality.

bright color photographs and pillows, new drapes. do something with the flower pot, make something that you would want to look at.
maybe hand a nice wall carpet.

Some advices are quotes from famous photographers :) it is good to know the history of photography. A lot of artist say that photographers are only those that know the history. The rest think they are photographers just because they take photos. But i think it depends, there are photographers and Art photographers.

If you didn't discarded the carved parts you can keep them and decorate the garden or cut them so you can keep them in your home, on the walls. Keep some of the logs and decorate the garden :) . I know how it is to loose an old tree, my dad had to cut 4 big old trees and now the garden looks empty :( i used the wood to make decorations, in the holes i've planted some grass and small flowers, other logs are carved in so i can put flower pots.
