I think I've always done family style, because I've never had a plated meal at someone's home. I also find that having the cook go first is good to show others one way the food might go together on the plate, if it's a more complicated meal than pizza or burgers.

Oddly enough, I usually plate dinner when it's just the my husband and I, but that's because with his ADHD that's the only way he'll remember to eat.

We've been remodeling our house since November and won't be finished for many months, so we haven't had anyone over for a while.

This weekend I used tongs to catch wires my husband was pushing up through the floor behind the entertainment center, so we didn't have to move it.

Healthy or not, I tend to fry a box of frozen pierogies in olive oil on my rare work from home days. And I tend to watch a cooking show while I eat if I have time.

Anatolia, I totally agree with you about only eating if you're hungry. unfortunately, my husband's blood sugar crashes before he even thinks about being hungry. :-(

I grate cheese with my mixer all the time, it just takes a few minutes to clean afterwards. I'm not sure what the attachment is called, though.

I use paper towels all the time. That way my house can be clean. All of our laundry gets pet hair on it before I can put it away.

My husband isn't a fan of food, cooking, or eating. I don't think we've just eaten a meal together without the tv or friends around for at least a year. :-(

I tend to like most fruit/vanilla scents. I just don't like the specific dessert scents like cupcake or chocolate cake or strawberry shortcake.

My dexterity is so confused. I grew up right-handed, but after a broken finger discovered that I am probably naturally left handed. I also grew up vegetarian, so there wasn't as much cutting involved. I also have a big mouth and love eating, so I tend to just grab a fork in whatever hand I feel like and stab, cut, and shovel food in with it. Or my fingers.

Of note, when I had my first steak the other day, I apparently ate European style. Next time, though, I might just stab it with the fork and bite pieces off.

I've found that my oven thermometer actually takes longer to come up to temp than my oven, so for an accurate reading, you have to wait a while.

Dana (that's the author, right?), you must have the pleasure of living alone. I wish I could start every day that way. Weekends are when I have to wait for my husband to wake up and then have breakfast ready sometime soon after that, so my relaxing is usually cut short. During the week, after sending him off to work, I take some time for myself and the window and some tea. And sometimes toast. And sometimes lemon curd, or honey. That time is how I deal with the rest of the week.

I'd love to have people over but I'm intimidated by most of our friends and the rest of them live too far away to make it very often. They usually come for most of a day.

I'd love to see simple recipes that are easy to make a lot of, even if there is some prep after the guests arrive. That's why I have a kitchen open to the living room!
