Unfortunately I don't haved time to read through what everyone else has said so please forgive me if I am repeating someone else. If you are breastfeeding, the first few weeks to months, you are probably going to want to be sleeping in the same room as the baby. Maybe you wont, but I found it to be much more convienient. So that would mean either the crib in your room if you have room for it, your in the baby's room, or a secondary sleeper in your room such as a pack n play if the crib doesn't fit.

A lot of the other stuff people call "must haves" are really just a matter of personal preference I think and unfortunately it is hard to tell whether or not you will want/need these things until you want/need them. Fortunately in this day and age pretty much the day you decide you want something you can basically go out and have it within an hour or so, unless you are mail ordering some specialty or designer items you can wait on getting a lot of stuff until YOU have decided it is a must have. Of course this does not help if you are looking to put together a baby shower registry.

I have to agree that these would totally just attract most children. RAVISHING, if there ever comes a time when you need to use them again, i would recommend these. I swear *I* need pliers to get them off.

I second the extra long walk through gate. We have one (not the same as mentioned above) and while it is not pretty, it is perfect. If you are going to be putting a gate at the top of the stairs, definately do NOT use one of the pressure mounted gate. If baby puts enough weight on it, which they eventually will, there is the chance the gate could come loose and it and the baby will careen down the stairs. There is a chance your child may not even be interested in it at all, or if you have a kid like mine, all obsticles present as challanges. Good luck.

I agree with tallsarah. I would have a real hard time cutting into that cake :) Looks like a party that could really be enjoyed by both the kids and their parents.

I cannot remember the exact cost but I am sure the last time we bought a large amount of stuff from Ikea the shipping was under $100. This was going into the store, collecting everything and then asking for shipping....NOT the website. It sounds like the website is calculating per item or something, where as going into the store gets you a flat rate depending on your distance from the store. Sounds like IF you go with Ikea it would be worth it to actually take the day to go to the store and get delivery or as someone else mentioned, renting a van.

you also have to take into consideration that people come to this blog for ideas and inspiration. it would be nice to think that every one in the world is up to speed on safety issues and hazards, but that's just not the case. whether or not the parents in this case are aware of the hazards, it's prudent to point it out as others might not be.

my tv is mounted like the one in the picture....above the fire place. unfortunately there is no where else in the room it can go thanks to a bunch of window and a sectional. it is too high. period. the only way you can comfortably watch it for any period of time is if you are slouching WAY back or lying down. eventually, once there are kids in our home we will have to figure out something else cuz i certainly don't want them having to crane their necks to watch tv...perhaps intensive to start finishing the basement ;)

i don't see anything "biker" or "pothead"ish about this at all...it's birds, flowers and a heart. Besides, tattoos don't equal bikers and druggies these days. I also know more people who drive Harleys that don't have tattoos than do! lol.

My grandmother in law does this. and i anthough don't mean to sound ungrateful but i really really hate it. it is totally contrary to what giving a gift is about. i've ended up with my own closet full of gifts we've gotten from her that totally have nothing to do with me or my husband, just random "finds" or sales that she has picked up that i wouldn't even consider giving to something else. If you find something that is perfect for some one, get it for them as a gift, otherwise get a bottle of wine or flowers or something consumable that your giftee wont feel obligated to hang onto.

I responded on an earlier post regarding rockers:

"I got the Poang rocker. Unfortunately I miscarried before I had a chance to really test it out. What I can say about it is this....it rocks well on solid surface floors (ie hardwood or tile) but not as well on carpeting...since I am short and the chair is quite deep, I was just able to reach the floor so I would have probably eventually gotten the ottoman to go along with it. Being really deep it is quite comfy (especially with the lambswool-like cushion) but I suspect it may be a bit difficult to get out of if you were holding a sleeping baby unless you are tall. That being said, I still love it."

I find it's refreshing to look at a celebrity home that showcases their normalness. most creative/artistic types I know do not keep a tickity-poo tidy house. Unfortunately a lot of the celebrities showcased nowadays are not actually "artist" of any medium, just pretty faces. They obviously live and work in this apartment, it's not just somewhere to show off their success. If you look beneath the clutter, their are some really nice pieces, that dresser certainly sings to me.

even if this is an owned space most condo boards have pretty strict rules about balconies and what can be put on them and hung even including potted plants and Christmas decorations both for safety and as mentioned before for aesthetic reasons. Rent or own, if you must do this, check first.

I'm planning on printing out a black and white photo from our wedding and then hang it along with some other black and white shots to make a sort of gallery wall. I think that way it wont come across as so precious, but it is still there to enjoy.
