So, because AT allows people to share their beautiful rooms, they are promoting bumpers? Or could it be that they are promoting people doing whatever the heck they want and sharing it.
Have you considered that maybe she has a baby movement monitor and maybe also a video monitor? Have you considered that maybe she will want to use them when her baby is like 10 months old and maybe pushes himself into the bars asleep thus waking himself up unnecessarily but she's got a close watch on his breathing and behavior?
Or maybe she wants to save them for when he's 18 months and still in his crib but moving all around and having some cushioning next to the rest of the crib, much like a pillow protects your head from the end of your bed?

Give mom some credit, if she's this resourceful in creating a beautiful room with only 64 sq. ft. and she lives in Boston, she's probably got some brains and can make safety decisions on her own. Do everyone at AT a favor and keep your safety concerns to yourself unless you're talking to a pregnant 16-year-old face to face. Not to mention, if one person has posted about the stupid bumper, why do you think the mom and everyone need to hear your negative thoughts on it too? Let's keep the comments positive and design-related people!

LOVELY ROOM MAMA, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT, SERIOUSLY.

I'm astonished that people cannot simply enjoy a beautifully decorated and photographed room without commenting on what's missing or what should not be there.
It is not your job to tell people what to do with their children. Chances are if they've read ANY posts on this blog prior to posting their room tour, they've already read all the comments regarding bumpers, shelves, frames, all the things people like you criticize people about.
Comment on the positive please! And once you've seen someone freak out about bumpers in a post, it's been noted and your additional criticism is certainly not needed.

Sarah, your room is beautiful. I love everything about it. The bumpers don't freak me out in the least, and the colors are perfect and soothing as bedrooms should be.

Ah! We did a cowboy party for my 2 year old son too, wish I had seen your banner idea! It looks like a perfect party. I love your blog and attempted to copy your son's monkey tree--I also bought shower invites from you on etsy.

We have 2 close siblings in a small room too. Love your use of space! We have a Kritter bed too but haven't yet put our oldest into it. I am tempted to try now that I see your child is younger and using one!

AT people, chill, this is probably supposed to be on the family/odeedoh part of the site.

As a high school teacher and parent, I honestly think that the people that have Kindergarten-ready kids and do this for the sports reason, do it because they can't fathom being able to afford college for their kids 13 years from now, so they want their kids to get scholarships. Why else would a parent care so much that their kid was the best or biggest on the sports team?

Middle and lower-income working families don't think twice about sending their kid to FREE kindergarten instead of paying another year of preschool/daycare.

If your kid is emotionally and academically ready, send them! Really, if you're even reading this post, hopefully you're already the kind of parent/person that wouldn't assume the teacher is the only one who teaches your child.... and that you need to reinforce and practice at home too. If you do that, your child should do well no matter how old they enter school.

I really wanted to order a duvet cover from Land of Nod for our bed but obviously because it's intended for kids they don't make it for king beds. If they weren't so expensive I would've even considered cutting it up and sewing on extra fabric!

It looks great! And you've posted such calm and mature responses to the crazies who think everyone wants to hear their opinion about the paint color. I don't know if I could restrain myself from telling them off as well as you have. I love the theme and how you've been able to work it and pull it all together, and think the color is great! I'm also jealous of your full nights sleep as of 7-weeks!

Great job on the yarn/nail letters! I pinned those too but doubted my abilities of keeping them straight. Yours turned out great!!

Amen BETHMCT! Thank you for posting what I feel like telling every self-assumed safety expert on here. Not to mention that in these pictures the crib looks like it's quite a bit in front of the wall, so baby couldn't reach them and on the off chance that they do fall, they'd have room to fall onto the floor.
And to the previous poster, the room seems to get plenty of natural light, the color is a nice, bold, masculine blue.
Great job parents!!

I also suggest a Jenny Lind crib. We bought a white one off Craigslist even though it was drop side. Then I went to the manufacturer's website and they sent the kit to permanently secure the drop side for free, no questions asked. We're in the process of painting it. You could keep both white or paint the Jenny Lind one pink or whatever color scheme you're thinking of using so they both end up with 'special' cribs. We're using a zero-voc semi-gloss paint and it's looking amazing. The crib also comes with teething protectors.

Coordinating bedding would tie the two together, it wouldn't have to be identical as long as it was similar colors/patterns. Check out etsy for cute handmade baby quilts and crib skirts, etc.

I would also just get a dresser (I love our Ikea Hemnes dresser in my sons room) and use it as a changing table with a changing pad secured to it (most have a strap that screws into the back of your dresser).

Good Questions

I was too scared to sleep with my baby in the bed. We started with him in our room in a playpen/bassinet that since then we've used mainly for travel. If you like to travel, do get one, if not, you probably can do without it.
Shop mom to mom consignment sales or craigslist, just search online for recalls on the model name and number. We bought a used Jenny Lind crib on Craigslist for $50. I searched online and it is a drop-side crib so I went to the manufacturer's website, entered the model number and they sent me the kit to 'fix' the drop-side for free, no questions asked. We are in the process of painting it red with ECO-spec paint from Benjamin Moore. It looks awesome. When my older son starts climbing out of his crib, we're going to build him a toddler bed with ideas that can be found on this website, and paint it the same color. We are going to have 2 little ones in a room the same size as yours and a dresser and a glider.

All you need to change a dresser to a changing table is a changing pad with 'grippy' stuff on the bottom (most have it) and a strap that allows you to bolt it to the back of your dresser to keep it secure. I recommend picking a dresser that is a comfortable height for you to be changing diapers and clothes without hunching down and straining your back.

Do get a glider with a foot rest that also glides. Nighttime feedings will be much more comfortable and easy to do, I definitely nodded off in it at times, & we still use ours every day. When we're done with it, we'll sell it.

Instead of spending lots of money and wasting kitchen space, we opted for a high chair that attaches and hangs from the table. Ours comes with a tray and rotates, we love it. It also doesn't take up a chair like the ones that strap to them which is good for when we have company.

The rest of the baby gear is up to you and how much money & space you're willing to trade for convenience & baby entertainment.

We bought this DIY decal and followed the seller's instructions for buying the piece of wood at a hardware store. It looks excellent, was easier than I imagined, and is much cheaper than buying a pre-made wood one.

I do really like the Brimfield canvas one too. It would be much easier to move from one wall to another or one house to another, but I also like the warm feel of the wood ruler.

SJW426 the malm drawers do glide smoothly. The casters are nice and sturdy.

I think this is a great idea. As far as the fabric getting dirty you could scotchguard it or scrub it with soap and a toothbrush if it got that dirty. I haven't had a need to clean my toddler's dresser drawers yet. You just take a chance on having to occasionally spot clean the fabric or change it entirely in a worst-case scenario, for the sake of having a personalized, aesthetic and soft touch on your otherwise plain malm dresser.

Actually slopegirl grey and gray are both correct in American usage of the English language, one of the only words that is spelled correctly with two different letters.

I love that the grey in this room is a dark/bold grey and that the pink is soft and muted. I also LOVE the wood paneling and ivory/white accents in the furniture, etc. I love that it's not too pink and not too grey, and I love the modern simplicity of it and the jenny lind crib.

This is a lovely feminine room to grow up in, well done!!

I DO think it's practical for anyone that is not using the space behind the door for anything else--and I can't imagine many people are-- regardless of how many books your kids have. It's not meant to store all of your books, it's a great and inexpensive way to display some of the hundreds of books your kids have in a space that otherwise gets ignored. If you worry about your kids climbing them, you could start with some shelves out of reach and add the bottom ones as they grow --when they know not to climb/pull on them. Thanks for the tutorial and the Etsy link.

I love this room, thank you so much for posting it. I've actually had my eye on the KURA bed for a 10x10 room also and since we don't have an IKEA close enough to check it out, I was wondering how low it was, but now that I see the MALM dresser by it, which we have, it helps tremendously!! Love the use of color, well done.
