You have made a huge improvement in this room. It makes your lovely furniture look even better.

Some ideas for further small changes

Get another black cube ottoman to put next to the one you have to give you more coffee table space.

If your shade is long enough see how it looks to hang it up at the same level as the curtain rod. That piece of wall between the shade and the rod bothers me.

The art over the couch seems a bit small for the space. You could move that piece a bit off center and stack several smaller pieces next to it to give you a bigger "art area".

The wall is really ugly, in my opinion, and I would take this opportunity to change it. I think it would look better to have the wall zig-zag back again on the other side, rather than put in the diagonal bit. The door is your call. It could work either way.

I agree with the idea of a good cleaning, some paint and living with what you've got for awhile before making major changes. In the meantime I would use the bedroom with the sink as a dressing room/closet (it looks like you might be lacking in storage space). Set it up with mirrors and lighting so you can "do" yourselves--and it will make your bathroom seem big enough and your bedroom more serene.

I think this room would look a lot better without the slipcovers, but I could imagine a setting where they would work. Bedroom, candlelight, windows thrown open to the breeze, champagne and chocolate on a small round table flanked by two of these chairs. All of the participants in their beautiful lingerie, even the chairs!

The chair really doesn't go.
Can you spring for the Ikea Molger for the shoes/ bench?

Paint the mirror (perhaps one of the colors from your hooks) and place it in the middle of your grouping.

Try to limit the jackets to 2 apiece for the two of you.

For more storage space, bedside tables can be incredibly cheap secondhand. That can be painted to blend in with the background wall, or to go along with the bright colors in the hooks. So could the shoe bench, for that matter. With so many little bits you will need to use color to unify the area.

black and white checkerboard--- a classic and would look nice with your tile. and I would keep the appliances white. stainless looks clean for about first minute and a half after you clean it.

I love every single bit of it. And great camera work. The composition of the photo taken from the kitchen at dusk has the movement and exuberance of a piece of modern art.

There are some very inexpensive woven shades that you can order that have light blocking panels attached to the back. I have them in one room and they work very well.

when we had more cash we often rented apartments when on vacation, and I tried to find ones that were decorated in a style that I could never live with, but would love to visit. oh, late afternoon in that peach colored Victorian parlor!

Now we have a camping trailer------which is fun of a different sort.

It looks wonderful, and I, too, think the lamps are a stoke of genius---But
where does the ottoman usually go? Certainly not blocking the speaker as it is now.

I can sympathize, though. I have big, big speakers because I love the sound, but it is a pain in the keister to decorate around their hulking boxiness.

i don't think much of it as art, but would love to spend some time cross referencing it with a street map, to get a better idea of SF in 3D.

anniegroover--you can usually get drawers to run more smoothly by rubbing soap or a bit of candle in the areas that are sticky. if that doesn't work, try sanding it a bit, and then try the wax or soap again.

i have a whole armoire for my tools and supplies because i'm a crazy DIYer

I just did not see how these were going to work, so I forgot about it. I was off doing something else, not even thinking about chairs and the answer came to me. And not even one answer, but two separate ideas.

Idea one: If you have a steady hand and good eye, paint the frames in subtle stripes in shades of green. Look at some striped bamboo for inspiration. Then I would reupholster in a coral color.

Idea two: If you leave the frames alone, go for a bold, African mud cloth look with your upholstery fabric.

Beautiful "bones" (i love the Eastlake), fantastic craftsmanship, but looks tragic---like a horrible traffic accident and you can't look away.

I like the green-gray of the amphora, or the dark blue of the dress. Then pick another color for a lamp or decorative items.
