Socca, I love you. I've always made it in a skillet on the stove without letting the batter rest. And it can be used as a substitute for pizza crust.

Mmmmm, such great tips. I love adding different spices to my granola to change things up. Cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, and yes, salt!

@Squiggle Trader Joe's should have halloumi. If not, or if it's too spendy, I really like their fry cheese and I think it would be a good substitute.

Lovely! It's refreshing to see a makeover where you can actually tell the before and after pics are indeed the same room. It goes to show small (and simple) touches can transform a space.

I usually prefer avocado with savory things, but I found out it tastes great mashed and mixed with a little honey spread on bread or muffins.

Great post. I clicked on the link for the Guide to Great Olive Oil and found out there's a new olive oil store near my house! Lately I've been switching brands every time I need olive oil, but haven't found anything great at a reasonable price yet. I make sure to buy it in a green glass bottle though.

Egg drop soup with lots of eggs. That'll give you a good amount of protein and fill you up.
This isn't super fancy, but you could put PB&J or soft goat cheese on saltines or some other cracker and let them dissolve in your mouth. Along the same lines, PB on banana slices would be easy to eat.

I was going to recommend the same thing--have him learn to cook for himself. Or have him cook WITH you. It might help to make a list of things he does like, so you can see what combinations might go together. One of my go-to resources when trying to think of what to do with vegetables is the cook book How To Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. It includes tons of ways to prepare different veggies and is very straightforward. Good luck!

This post couldn't come at a better time. I've been veggie for about two and a half years and this week I bought a pack of organic turkey bacon out of the blue. I haven't eaten any yet, because I'm nervous about cooking meat, although I don't think even I could screw up turkey bacon. I'd be interested in tips on how to cook fish without cutting into it to check if it's done.

Great post! Cheers to my ladies who enjoy their whisky. I fell in love with it when I visited relatives in Scotland. They served me 18-year-old Glenfiddich, which was quite nice. I also toured a distillery, which I'll never forget. It's what I imagine heaven smells like.

I just did this the other night. I mixed the potato flesh with a little Earth Balance butter, cumin, and adobo sauce. Then topped it with black beans, salsa verde, and cheese. I do another version mixing the flesh with walnut oil and spices and topping it with either feta or ricotta salata and toasted pumpkin seeds.
For extra protein you could add hemp seeds or lentils.

Dessert fondu? You could set out a big pot of melted chocolate fondu with an assortment of fruit, and maybe pound cake squares for the people who can eat gluten.

I think the best french toast I've ever made was from a vegan cookbook. I used whole grain bread since that's usually what I have on hand. It calls for chickpea flour, which gives the french toast an awesome coating and flavor. The recipe also calls for a few different kinds of nut milks/creamer but I just used all almond milk and had good results so don't be afraid to play around with the recipe. I'm pretty sure I added some cinnamon and vanilla extract to the batter as well.

Although not a movie exclusively about food, food does play a beautiful part in "I Am Love," starring Tilda Swinton. And it's on Netflix Instant.
And even though this one isn't on instant, I'd recommend "Big Night" with Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub to anyone who loves food.

I'll second the adding cocoa powder and dates for an AMAZING chocolate pudding (although maybe not for breakfast). I made some for my parents and told them to guess the secret ingredient. They were shocked but totally loved it. It's also quite nice with a little toasted coconut on top.
