Yes. I forgot that only children are obnoxious and rude. And obviously as a parent I can only talk about my children.

Dinner Party Dilemmas: Solutions To Eight Awkward Entertaining Situations Apartment Therapy's Home Remedies

People are so weird about kids. I would rather you simply not invite me if you are concerned that I might bring my kid. Things come up and being a parent is hard enough without worrying about the fact that you can't handle having my (honestly) well behaved children around. They are part if my family and part of the package if you want to be my friend. Maybe you have an obnoxious boyfriend, but it I extend the invitation to you, I accept its likely that he comes too. Kids are people, not horrible creatures bent in wrecking your dinner party .

We recently moved into a smaller old house and with two small children (ergo not a lot of time and money), this emerged as the dominate scheme. While sometimes I miss something more glamorous, the ease of this palate is nice and keeps it feeling light and airy, which is especially helpful given all the stuff that comes with kids (toys, car seats, etc).

Thanks for this post! This is the hardest part for me- not focusing on what is yet to do, but embracing/enjoying all that has been done. In the past 12 months since moving we have entirely DIYed the following : gutted an entire kitchen, installed a new Ikea kitchen, ripped out a wall and reinforced the ceiling with structural beams, painted walls, removed wall paper, refinished floors, installed a "fauxdenza", re-sheetrocked ceilings, installed new floors , had a baby girl and took care of our three year old boy. See, now I feel better and can rest easy today instead of fretting over all the missing window trim:)

You are probably right- it might be better for some prints than others though. I might try it- if it won't work as "art" , I'd at least get a new cool shower curtain :)

I was just thinking that the new shower curtains from society 6 would be a nice cheap way to add a big piece of art. You could mount them on a homemade frame? I haven't' seen the fabric in person though, so I'm not entirely sure how classy it would look

I am interested to see how this holds- I love the idea and the look!!! However I would totally worry about this flaking off, and then having to deal with what to do then. I'm thinking I'm going to go the paint route, as I am not nearly this brave.

I didn't use the boppy ever for nursing, but it did come in handy during the "she can't quite sit up without toppling over phase"!

I like this tour, but wonder if they have any seating in the living room other than the table? It definitely makes the space seem airy and light, but I'm not sure I'd be able to give up the loungey-ness of my sofa!

Will IKEA's Christmas Tree Fabric Be Back This Year? Good Questions

I was about to say that I saw some nice (and equally compelling) baskets yesterday in the 10-20 range at TJMaxx!

Kids' Storage You'll Want In the Living Room

While I know some folks are vehemently opposed to the idea, why not an Ikea couch? You can get one of their upper end models
(i.e. Stockholm: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60103137/#/60103137)
and since it's all flat packed you would have no problem getting it into (and out of, if you ever move) your room. We have the Karlstad sectional and it's wonderful and lounge-y and has held up great over the past few years.
Good luck with the search :)

Sofa for Room with Narrow Entryway Opening? Good Questions
5/30/13 07:26 AM

I love seeing this after yesterday's post on "investment" furniture. We bought the slip covered Ikea Karlstad sectional last year- with a toddler and another critter on the way, the piece of mind that comes with that sofa was the best investment I could have made. It's held up great and I don't care if they jump on it, spill stuff, eat, etc. (maybe I'm just a bad parent though ;)). In any case, my life is too crazy to be worrying about keeping everything perfect!

Tips for Avoiding Drawn-On Furniture

Seriously?!? You can get the Orbit System new for $940 from amazon. Why would I want to buy a crappy used one with some one else's kids crumbs, spit up, etc on it when I can buy a new one for virtually the same price. I hate it when people spend WAY too much money on things and then expect them to hold their value. If I have enough money to buy a used stroller for $940 then I'd probably just buy a new one for a few dollars more. People who buy expensive stuff have no concept of depreciation costs. At $400 this might be a good deal, but shame on AT for promoting such a rip off.

I have a really thick latex mattress pad from ikea that I was thinking about making a cover for. It's essentially the same idea, and it folds into multiple shapes easily (though not the square- but it also was only ~$100).

We just got this sunshade from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Genji-Sports-Family-Beach-Sunshelter/dp/B002970M1E/ref=sr_1_6?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1305830084&sr=1-6
I was a little skeptical, but its AWESOME. It's really light and you just unzip the bag and the thing pops open. Closing it is about as simple , and it fits easily back into the carry bag. I picked it up for the beach this summer with my 6 month old little guy, but we've already used it a couple of times in the yard. Oh, and it has a floor as well, which I think it useful.
The only small thing to note is that I actually paid ~40 for it on amazon a couple of weeks ago- their prices seem to fluctuate a bit, so I'd recommend looking elsewhere too.
