I almost always freezer our bread - we have a household of two and working through a loaf of bread can be challenging.

The easiest way is to pre-slice the loaf and freeze it, wrapped in foil then in a plastic or bread bag. You can easily take just the slices you want and thaw them as needed or put them wrapped in foil in the oven (about 20 minutes at 350-400 degrees depending on the amount and type of bread) and it's good as new.

Jeni's Buckeye State Ice Cream is my FAVORITE - it's peanut butter ice cream with dark chocolate flecks. I had to learn to make it myself when I moved away from Columbus.

you can use brisket for just about anything, i love it in brisket sandwiches or brisket tacos .... you could even throw a little BBQ sauce over it and have BBQ brisket (one of my faves!)

i've always been a big fan of "dirt" which has oreos, pudding, and whipped cream. Puppy Chow/Muddy Buddies are great too.... and pretty much any variation of rice krispy treats (like these chocolate ones ....) :)

i freeze my desserts all the time, but just to enjoy later. Cake and brownies tend to benefit from it and thaw with an even more moist, tender crumb than before they went in.... i haven't mixed them into ice cream though...

the counter took the longest for us. we did quartz/silestone so they custom make each one. we had to have our cabinets installed before they would even come for measurements, then you have to wait for them to fabricate the counters.... and then come out and install them.... something to consider when choosing your counters :)

PS i LOVE silestone, it was worth the wait, but i hadn't anticipated the long wait in our kitchen planning :)

ASK AROUND for quotes, even using IKEA-approved installers the prices varied significantly. And even then, the one we settled on had a number of issues (i.e., I never got a receipt for the work completed).

Make sure you measure where your OTR microwave (if you're having one) will go. Our initial plan of having upper-upper cabinets was nixed because when we installed the first set of cabinets the microwave bottom would have been dangerously close to the stovetop. We could have remedied this with a shorter above-the-mic cabinet, but by this time the installers were already there so they made the executive decision to just move everything up a few inches.

I second the big drawers opinion, that's what we went with ... we did save money by doing a few little things ourselves (like hooking up the sink and dishwasher plumbing, demo-ing our old kitchen ourselves, and assembling the actual cabinets ourselves as well)...

we spent a little extra, too, when it turned out that we needed a few extra things (like an electrician to make a dedicated circuit for our new OTR microwave...)

also, a great peanut butter frosting, or you could omit the peanut butter and keep it vanilla (or any other flavor by adding corresponding extract)

here is a good chocolate frosting recipe

the original recipe did call for an egg, but i left it out and the frosting was absolutely delicious without it. you could also modify to use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate, whichever you prefer

to get chunks in my granola recipe, i don't stir it very often. Instead I let it bake into a giant slab of granola, then crush it up myself once it has cooled. that gives me the big crunchy chunks i love so much :)

Oh, I definitely have a second breakfast. Usually "first breakfast" is my coffee & oatmeal (or another 250-cal or less combo) followed by "second breakfast" which is generally a fruit, fruit + peanut butter combo, or a granola bar.

I actually get hungry about every 2 hours, like tummy-rumbling, light-headed, must-eat-something-now hungry. I actually was worried I was developing diabetes or something so I had blood tests done but nope - I'm 100% healthy.... just like to eat more often I guess haha ~

when we were microwave shopping i found a lot of microwaves that do both micro-nuke and convection baking (equipped w fans, built to be OTR)

as far as just toaster ovens go, i've never seen one w/ a fan before. I love the Breville Smart Oven - we used it pretty much nonstop when I worked at Sur La Table - but the top definitely gets warm so you would want a way to protect everything around it (inc itself) from excess heat buildup.

I do this all the time, particularly with carrots. I love it, personally. it's a great way to make those harder-to-stab vegetables easy to incorporate into each bite without shaking the leafy veggies from your fork!

i usually drink from my bodum pavina glass, but since I shattered it I've been using my favorite mug which is a character from a grammar comic because I'm a total grammar nerd.

it is my favorite mug in the whole world, but for some reason I only use it after breaking things... it made a pretty good measuring cup too when i made my croissants

I love to keep my fresh herbs on my windowsill, and recently started doing this as well - it's so great!

I basically do the same thing with basil, when you buy the packages at the store you can stick them into water and they'll keep growing ~ just cut off what you need and remember to change the water regularly
