I have open and love it -- so much easier when I have a hot saucepan in one hand and want to grab a dish pronto! (I'm not good at thinking ahead, what can I say?) We use our plates and bowls so often dust doesn't get a chance to settle, but we do have to rinse out our wineglasses every time we use them, since we don't use them more than once every two months or so.

so *that's* what those things are! I've seen them on my neighbors' trees and just thought they were strange ornaments. I'm disproportionately pleased with this new discovery.

I vote for khaki/mushroom, leaving the brick wall white.

Gaiam has a few in its online shop, too -- very inexpensive ($89 for a 6'x9') and made of recycled soda bottles.

That is seriously cool.

I guess I'm having a hard time articulating the difference between these and, say, an Eames house bird or the turf balls from CB2.

The Dyson fan does have a fan -- it's just in the base rather than where the blades usually go. So I did not find it particularly quiet, which is my personal sticking point with fans...

The good: the breeze was gentle, but wide and encompassing and not "choppy"; plus it's a great conversation piece. The bad: the noise, the incredible price tag, and I also found it disappointingly cheap-looking in person. But that's just me. I got a Vornado and love it: it's strong and on three of the four settings it's virtually silent.
