I like Alouette_Jolly's idea of a round table.

In terms of 'lightening up' have you considered recovering the seats of the chairs in a lighter fabric, perhaps something with colour? That might solve the 'heavy' problem.

I love number 8. The splash of colourful plates on the wall are just perfect.

I do kind of agree with SophieRose, but I think storing things that are used on a regular basis above the stove is just fine. As long as they're used often enough that they're cleaned and wiped free of grease and grime regularly.

Aaah! I love how many books they've managed to squeeze into the tiny space. The built in book cases are fabulous.

Oh dear. I had never heard this rule before! I grew up with our piano always sitting against an exterior wall. My parents owned a big, 100+ year old farm house in rural Ontario. We would save money by keeping most of the house quite cool in the winter and heating on the kitchen with a woodstove, so I'm sure our piano was exposed to plenty of temperature fluctuations. Granted, it wasn't a piano my parents spent a lot of money on; it too was nearly 100 years old but it played beautifully and had amazing sound. They got it tuned every couple years. A while back we had the piano assessed ('worthless' in its current condition, but worth it to put some money into it to restore it). We didn't hear anything from the piano restoration company about damage caused to it by its life against an exterior wall.

Regular tunings are important anyway, especially if you're playing on a regular basis so really...? I wouldn't worry too much about the rule.

This is not a new thing. My grandmother's chairs wear chair socks. So do mine, for that matter. Felt pads fall off and little chair booties take about half an hour to crochet a set with scrap yarn. If you use a nice thick yarn and a tight stitch, they're far better and more effective at protecting your floors than those terrible felt pads that fall off every other week. We have easily scratched bamboo floors, so they're a must.

These, on the other hand, are a little silly. Way too high up the leg! Still, practical.

For those interested, a pattern!

This is absolutely fabulous, but I'm curious too... does it smell like an old tire?

I could never dream of keeping our cockapoo out of our bed. She is the best snuggler, and loves to sleep with us. She picks the weirdest spots... perched on my shoulder, or snuggled right between us, maybe even a little squished. The best is when she 'spoons'. Our sheets can get dirty... in the fall she was bringing a lot of tiny little burrs in on her fur and, of course, they ended up in our bed. Not so comfy! But I'll sacrifice clean and pretty bedsheets for the sleepy puppy grin in the morning!

I actually really like this idea, but mostly I like any built-in cutlery storage. Right now we have one of those plastic cutlery trays and it slides all over the drawer it's in making everything a mess. The germy thing doesn't bother me at all, but I can see how it might bug some people.

I love it! We have a detached garage that we hope to turn into a BBQ oasis of sorts. This makes me wonder if I should be shooting higher...

I have a huge frying pan that doesn't fit anywhere else sitting out on our stove all the time, but I'd love to replace it with a stainless steel kettle of some kind.

I agree with some of the others... I won't put anything above the stove. For years, while a student, I had all my spices lined up on top of the stove. When I went to move I was tempted to just throw them all away because the jars were coated in a layer of grease and grime, especially the ones I didn't use all the time. I do think that row of plates is incredibly cute though.

I wouldn't mind an oversized sink for a kitchen, but what do you need a large sink for in the bathroom? Personally, I'd like more counter space than sink space.

Though, I love the concept of that last one... double sinks in one!

We did this is our tub with a mosaic marble accent and I absolutely LOVE the look. I never knew this size existed until we had to make a snap decision about tile, but I'm so glad we stumbled across it.
