Kids, on an almost universal level, LOVE little nooks they can hide away in. My almost 3 year-old daughter's bed is in her closet. Her room is very small and previous owners put a built-out closet in there which happened to be the exact dimensions of her crib mattress. My father-in-law outfitted the space with a platform for her mattress with cubbies underneath and bookshelves. I cannot tell you how much time she spends sitting in her bed, pulling out all of her books and looking at them or playing with her stuffed animals. I say anything that encourages reading or creative play is wonderful, so I don't see the need for such a cynical commentary like yours.

Yes! I'd like to know the answer to this question as well since it seems that any time on AT someone displays Native American-made or inspired art, it launches a debate on whether or not that sort of thing is inappropriate or.. "a bit strange".

Love this room!

Can I ask the source of the crib comforter or the pinwheel fabric used to create it? Googling "Pinwheel fabric" is about as specific as I can get and produces frustratingly varied results.

The room tours features are almost always staged. I'm sure the pillows/comforter is removed when the baby is actually sleeping in the crib.

Fine, call it a tent that resembles a tipi. Unless you, yourself, are 100% Native American and are that deeply offended by this, calm down.

We "trash-picked" our Bilibo. The most entertainment it's provided thus far (in over a month) is when I tried to sit in it and promptly fell over, to my 2.5 year-old's delight. At free, it was a heck of a bargain. Can't say I would ever (EVER) spend $25 on what is simply just a piece of molded plastic. Maybe when my already pretty imaginative 2.5 year-old is a little older, it'll serve some use?

Love everything about this room.. its just so cozy.
100% agree about the PAX wardrobe. We got the single version for our daughter's room and it took over a (very busy, hectic) month to finally put the door on it.

I think this is an interesting post, but I do have to comment that half of the appeal of the KURA bed is that you can flip it upside-down and it becomes a canopy-esque bed (as presented on the IKEA website, I'm not making this up!) :)

This house looks both lovely and lived-in.. something you don't see all that often on AT.
And of course, I always love seeing a Philly home :)

I like *some* things about this house (ALL of the rugs and throw pillows, staircase bookcase, their pups) but, mostly, it looks like they JUST moved in (like.. yesterday).

Emilyryz hit the nail on the head on this one.

I also don't understand people losing their s#!+ over painted brick. It's dried mud, people. Rectangles of reddish-brown dried mud. There's nothing "special" or "charming" or "unique" about brick and as many people appreciate painted brick as those who hate it. It also tends to make rooms look *very* dated, especially in this instance when combined with wood paneled walls. Personally, there's a little too much paint in this room for my taste, such dark paint at that.. but I get that its a home theater so dark paint was necessary. Overall, they did a great job with execution.. it looks very neat.

Maybe if they bring in some "earthy" elements through furnishing to warm it up? Like a raw-slab coffee table paired with warm textiles and pattern? Or whatever suits *them*, since it is THEIR home and all.. :)
