Really beat me to it - I just took out Organizing frm the Inside Out frm the library and was shocked that I finally found a book on organizing that acknowledged color coding etc isn't the end all be all for everyone. The key to what she says is that you cannot simply apply a system and expect it to work bc it worked for someone else, rather you first need to find out how you work best and the reasons behind the constant disorganization. From there is where the systems originate. I'm purchasing a copy this weekend and recommend it to anyone who's tired of the same old "find the right storage container" style organizing book.

Seeing more and more of these advertisements-as-articles recently. Seems very anti what AT is about - "if you hurry, introductory discounted rates are being offered through February"??

Hey Now Tex - you can get the wallpaper on Alluminare http://www.alluminare.com

Did I just fall into a clever trap luring me into promoting JL wallpaper......Gah!

Anyhoo - I actually dislike JL as I actually had a boss who behaved much like him and it wasn't pleasant. He's extremely narcissistic which causes him to distrust everyone regardless of how obviously devoted they are to him and his business bc, of course, he's the only one who can do anything right. Not even a bit cute.

I agree with Chester/Trudy on the kitchen but wow - it does my soul good to see that real loft bldgs still exist in nyc. This loft reminds me of my friends apts in soho that I would play in as a child. Of course my friends parents were actually artists with full on studios in the living space. Usually when you see an apt described as a NYC loft you cannot tell it apart from the brand new condos - this is the way these buildings are supposed to look.

I currently have two avocado plants that I've had for about a yr that started out as a seed. They aren't doing great but then I should pay better attention to 'em. I'm constantly attempting to grow tomatoes (eat so many of them) and what happens is that I'll plant the seeds, very quickly get sprouts, it grows well but then sort of stops growing (but still looks healthy) but never grows fruit. Once I got little tiny tomatoes but that's it. I also always stick the tiny pineapple seeds in soil but never get anything from that.

Looks amazing! As a possible solution to the footsie feel dilema, maybe you could try using rit dye? It's of course much thinner so you probably would have to use a sponge to apply it to the doormat.

I agree with Sandra, when one reads "pre-war" you expect some sliver of historic architecture remaining. This is actually less cookie cutter than most of the "pre-war" renovations in NYC but still the result is pretty much soul-less. It's pretty pathetic when a brand new upper east side condo is indecipherable from a "pre-war" apt in the West Village.

I definitely agree with Miami Elaine, I much prefer to be able to immediately see where my kitchen is unclean so it can be dealt with right then & there. To me that's one of the appeals of a white kitchen.

ps - these ridiculous, misleading, overpriced CL listings have pushed me over the edge recently - to Freecycle. I just began perusing and I gotta say, not too shabee (had to get one final CL spelling error joke in there.)

Of course I'm jumping for joy that's it's not just me. So now that we've established that there's a ton of CL items that are drastically overpriced junk, the thing that really gnaws at me is - where's all the really cool stuff that shows up repeatedly on AT amazing house tours?? And did the AT house tour folks just break down and pay jacked up prices when they found these pieces? The fleeting hope that I too could score, say, an ACTUAL vintage iron & leather chair on CL and be able to casually say "I picked it up on CL" a la AT House Tour folks is the one thing that enables me to trudge through those listings anymore.

I actually suggest doing the outside last as when you're doing the rim and seat there's a very good possibility that you'll be getting dirty drips down the outside.

Love this look! One question, is it me or are the pics color manipulated? On first glance I thought maybe the photos were b & w with the wood color added in.

Congrats on putting together a beautiful apartment/study in 70s decor. I love the sculptural piece in the bedrm and have a special place in my heart for vintage appliances; not only are they so cool looking but they certainly are workhorses aren't they? I'm currently lurking after a vintage blender that looks exactly like yours but haven't taken the plunge yet. I also think your collection displays are amazing - the soda cans, awesome!

Thankfully I'm not allergic to ay foods, but I do get a weird reaction in my mouth after eating fresh pineapple & eggplant. My mouth feels like it's been burned or scratched raw. Does anyone else have that reaction?

I've actually seen larger boxes of different shapes filled with interesting items suchs as cotton balls, fake flowers, etc & used as side & occassional tables. Always wanted to take on that project, but haven't yet. Has anyone else attempted?
