Rebecca, your party looked fantastic! I love that you really incorporated your daughters favorite toy - the sock monkey - into every little detail. That's so thoughtful and FUN. I actually didn't think this party seemed over-the-top at all. There are some I've seen on here {and pinterest} that are nuts...but yours wasn't. Don't let the negative comments from grumpy readers get you down! I threw a party very similar to yours for my twin daughters' first birthday and got a really nasty "Anonymous" comment on my blog about how "ridiculous of a party it was for one-year-olds." It made me feel bad! We tried for five years to have children and to finally be able to throw a birthday party was a big deal for me so yeah, my twins couldn't have cared less about the coordinating cakes and invitations, but so what? It's as much a celebration for you as it is for your child when they're young. Toddlerhood is hard and they're only young once! {And just because there aren't pictures of the children playing games and having fun doesn't mean they didn't have that. They could've been playing pin the tail on the sock monkey for all you guys know. Give this talented mama a break!}

love the stripes! but i'm wondering why the mobile isn't over the crib? i've seen that on a few nursery tours recently, where the mobile isn't over the crib. am i missing something? i thought the purpose of a mobile was to hang above the crib for the baby to have something to look at?

@JNS @NELLYMOM you ladies are hilarious. this is so perfect as a picnic table, side table, snacktime table {gasp} and a larger top would make it the perfect drawing table. i will definitely be getting two of those for my twins the next time i'm around an ikea!

thanks AT for the post! :)

oh gosh, the bumper debate again. let's slam the new mom for her design choices AND parenting...if you purchased a bedding SET and paid some good money for it, would you take a picture of it all together too? my twins don't sleep with bumpers, but in their nursery tour, i had their bumpers on! {it was before the AAP came out with their recommendations, but had it been after, i still would have left them on for a cohesive picture.} and until bumpers are illegal, i don't see how blasting someone for having them on their crib is right.

this nursery is gorgeous. i wish it was MY room! :) and as far as the two commenters that said it wasn't designed for the baby, but the mother and that it's impractical.....well, that's just stupid. how do we know that infants like winnie the pooh and butterflies {as so many nurseries are hideously decorated with}? babies LOVE bright colors and contrast, so it seems like this room is actually designed MORE for the baby than any other nursery. it's chic, well thought-out and just nice to look at! the only thing that may be impractical {unpractical is not a word} is the chair, with the fact that spit-ups may be hard to clean and the fact that it doesn't rock, but so what??? that's the parent's choice to have it in there. AND not all babies like to be rocked.
this room rocks. great job. i love the fact that you did this yourself and didn't have a "designer" come in and do it, that's awesome. congrats on your little girl and your beautiful room!

I am sorry to agree that this isn't a hack, it's a paint job. That said, the chalkboard paint is fabulous! :)

kids sleep like starfish no matter how big their beds are....i'm sure she'll be able to adjust to sleeping with a significant other without a problem. lol!

i was blown away by henry and charlie's room and this one seems so ho-hum compared to it! i love the chalkboard wall, but hate all of the clashing pinks. i LOVE her artwork, though! she's a talented little girl!

and i'm kinda bummed that a LOT of the rooms featured on here lately have been the result of an interior designers work. i totally agree with @sasha2. if i wanted to see an interior designer's portfolio, i'd go to their websites. :/

...not what i expected....at all. i was actually excited to see this space transformed, not just cleaned out and maroon-less. {i think it's great that this space is spruced up and reclaimed, but where's the story, AT?}

i'm appalled at all of this criticism!! who cares if there is a chandelier in a boys' bedroom? it's not crystal, for goodness sake! and who doesn't tidy a room when they take pictures of it for a feature, i mean, seriously?! children need to be taught to respect their things {ie: toys and school items} and to keep their space tidy. gross and messy rooms=lazy parenting.
the white bedding is perfect, bleach can get anything out that a little boy could get on it. the built-in bunks are fantastic, as well as the study spaces. the only thing that would concern me is how far the trundle would have to be pulled out so the sleeper wouldn't hit it. but i'm sure in a space this thought-out, there is plenty of room to accommodate a comfortable amount of space.
this room is a job well done, kudos to the parents and the designers!

@mamashafe you hit the nail on the head.

and to those who are criticizing this post...perhaps your rude words would have more meaning if you used proper grammar? just a thought. i think the baby painting is adorable and i can't wait to do it on a big canvas with my 11 month-old twins. get a grip, people.

i love seeing people's homes as they REALLY are - lived in. i think it makes us all feel better because we know that even beautifully designed spaces get messy too - just like our houses!

WOW. so beautiful! i wish my twins could have a big room like that!!

and i second whoever said that multiples need their own space. my twins can't sleep together anymore because they always wake each other up.

that room is just beautiful!
