I've been looking through your flickr photos, really great home. I love the couch and figured it was MCM, but was surprised to learn it was Urban Outfitters. (I assumed it was the same one) How do you like it a year later?

I'm not crazy about owls, I know it is very popular right now, but just not my thing. HOWEVER - your bathroom just made me smile!! It was an instant grin, and a total surprise! Maybe I will have to rethink the owl theme. It is a very unique and happy home that you have set up. Thank you so much for sharing!

This brought back sweet memories of my husband and I when dating and newly married. We used to surprise each other by leaving little notes and treasures in each others cars at work. It would be such a nice surprise to leave work after a stressful day and find a single red rose, or a handful of chocolate kisses with a little love note attached to the steering wheel!

Also post-it love notes in unusual places is a nice surprise. I've put them in his coat pockets, in his cereal bowl in the cupboard, on the bathroom mirror...not necessarily all at the same time. But that might be fun too.

Even with all that brick, the living room looks so warm and inviting!

And we really need to know more about that window treatment! It looks like a beautiful way to disguise a not so great view without sacrificing all the light.

I just went and looked at the rest of Kat's house. Her home is so cute! I like the bedroom, but I would really love to see more of her home, especially the living room!

A sunken bedroom! I have never seen anything like this before. Very different.

I really like the letter pillows on your bed. Nice pop of color!

I would price it out, before I went all out in refinishing a piece.

I recently painted and replaced all the hardware on an old buffet. It originally had a gold stain, very 60's looking. It wasn't a valuable antique, and I really wanted it black. I sanded it all down, primed and painted with a high quality paint. I replaced all the hardware with silver pulls and silver hinges. It is beautiful and I love it! However, the hardware alone cost me almost $100, then you have to add in the time, patience and paint. I would do it again, but only on a piece I loved the bones of.

Also, I believe your dresser has two holes for each of the drawer pulls. The one you want to model it after only uses one hole. It will take some extra effort to fill those holes so they don't stand out.

I like your current set-up! The first one looks like you are using books as decoration, the second looks like you have books to read them. I think the color coordinating books look nice, but so can non-color coordinating bookshelves. I personally like to keep my books organized by subject matter.

KrapArtist,
The mice are really simple. You need:

Dipping chocolate
Maraschino cherries with stems
slivered almonds
Hershey's Kisses
gel icing

Melt the dipping chocolate. I lay the cherries out on a paper towel to dry a bit. Dip them in the chocolate by the stem. Lay them on their side on some waxed paper. As you do that push a hersheys kiss on the front for the mouse head. Slip the slivers of almonds in for ears. Let chill till chocolate has hardened. Use gel icing to make a dot for nose and eyes.

These have been a huge hit at parties, and really simple. You can make a few or make a lot.

I don't have one and don't plan on purchasing one for myself. However they can be a great gift for the older set without computers. My sister bought one for her sons great-grandmother. All she does is send a new Micro SD with all the new pictures and the great grandmother sends the old one back in the mail. She loves it, and shares it with all her visitors.

My husband is severely allergic to Febreze. Even though he doesn't have asthma, he begins wheezing and has trouble catching his breath. I am not a scientist, so I don't know if it is the scent that affects him or not. He doesn't have this problem with any thing else.

I switched to using essential oil and vinegar for all my scent absorbing needs, if it can handle liquid. If it can't get wet, I use dryer sheets to help. But if something is really in need of freshening, drag it out on the lawn on a sunny breezy day.

I would use the evaporated milk in a chowder of some kind, potato leek, corn and potato or what have you.

And then make Oreo Truffles for dessert. Take a package of oreos and crush. Mix in 1 package of softened cream cheese. Form into small balls and dip in melted chocolate. Refrigerate till firm. These are a favorite at work. No one believes anything that tastes that good, could be that easy to make!

My favorite tip with lemons, combines pretty with practical. I take large glass containers and lay the full slice up against the glass. Fill with white vinegar. If you let this set, it makes the greatest smelling vinegar! Plus you have a pretty display for your counter top.

I like to mix the lemon vinegar with just a touch of olive oil to clean my woodwork. It also works great with baking soda to clean your kitchen drain! And smells heavenly!

I grew up just outside Philly, and we always called the evening meal - Dinner. We moved to Maine in my late teens, and everyone here calls dinner their noon meal. Supper is what you eat in the evening. After nearly 15 years of living here, I have been converted. I eat supper, except when I go out to dinner!!

I first found AT a few years ago while looking for ideas to decorate my new apartment. We had recently sold our home, and were back among apartment dwellers. We faced a lot of decorating challenges, and I received a lot of ideas on the many areas of AT (as they were added). When green home/Re-nest was added, I was particularly excited. I am not anywhere close to living a "green" life, but I like trying. I too would like to see some changes to Re-nest, but not so great a change as SFGail would propose.

I think it's nice to include green building and energy products, but please don't make that the sole focus. I am still an apartment dweller and am severely limited in the amount of remodeling I may do.

I like reading occasionally of new products, but we have over done the air freshener theme lately. What I would have rather seen, is some reader ideas on how to refill my current air freshener dispenser, with a homemade solution. Seriously, any ideas?

When we look at the other AT sites, we see all kinds of house tours, questions, tips, plenty of great eye candy. I would like to see this approach applied to Re-Nest as well. I don't just want the pretty pictures, but I want the details: What do you use? What works for you, what doesn't? What is your best re-use tip? I want to see pictures inside your cabinets and cupboards!

Come on, living green is more than a look, it's a lifestyle, and it can't be bought!

My husband and I both have allergies and a cat that likes to sleep with us. We run a HEPA air purifier at night in our bedroom. We first got it for an apartment that had no windows in the bedroom. We have since moved, and still use our air purifier at night. I'm not sure if it really helps our allergies or not, but the prefilter gets pretty coated with dust particles. I won't give it up, because I need the background noise to get a good nights rest.

I actually really like this idea. I have a cat that nibbles on every plant! I think this would be a great set-up to start seedlings. Right now, I have to keep my plants on the top of very high bookshelves. Eventually the cat WILL figure out how to climb them!

I agree the disposable cake pans aren't the best long term solution. But I could really see this as a beautiful way to show off some great pots. I'm thinking all orchids in bright colorful pots.

A fellow wii user with a small living room! I love your set-up, but what do you do with the lovely glass coffee table when everyone comes over to play?

Since we purchased our Wii, our extra tables went into storage. It just leaves more space for extra company with flailing arms, and less injuries! We are still working on pulling our living room together. We have a large TV and love having people over to play, but not everyone we invite is coming over to play. We like to have a more formal space at times too. I think you have struck a nice balance here. Thanks for the inspiration!

I just finished making the Peanut Butter Popcorn. I used air popped popcorn and natural super chunky peanut butter. It's still a little warm, but tastes delicious! I can't wait for it to cool. The house smells so good tonight. First from the batch of applesauce I canned and now from all the peanut-y goodness.

oooooh! These sound like perfect fall snacks. Hmmm . . . I'm supposed to be canning apple sauce tonight, I may have to squeeze in some time to whip together the recipe for Peanut Butter Popcorn. It sounds quick and easy! Thanks for the great ideas!
