This is such a great post, and I'm loving the comments! We have a two year old and so far the only thing we consistently watch is Mister Rogers, which is just absolutely fantastic. The pace is slow, considered, and filled with such love.

As for films, I have it in my head that I want to show him My Neighbor Totoro as his first movie. But I love the idea of starting with the old silents!

How about some old Shirley Temple films? I have a fondness in my heart for A Little Princess and Heidi, as others have mentioned. And Laurel and Hardy, definitely.

We share our room with our 12 month old (he's in a crib, he has always hated being in bed with us, it totally riles him up!) and every week I wonder when he's going to be ready for his own room and then another week goes by and he's still in our room. I have to sleep with a pillow over my head because I am so hypersensitive to every sound he makes. My husband doesn't hear a thing. I love having him there, and since it's a one bedroom, it's helpful. But still, this can't go on forever, and I'm not sure at what point we'll have move when he realizes we are sleeping right next to him and starts shouting at us to get up. I just don't know. I'd like to hear more from people who have been sharing their rooms and at what point it became unsustainable.

We are looking for something along these lines too and are most concerned about the safety of a toddler knocking them down, but I suppose just folding them during the day is probably the answer.

Just another post to second the awesomeness that is Custom Comfort Mattress in the OC. We got a wonderful natural latex bed there and the people are really great to work with.

I'm working on the same kind of problem in our new apartment. We are going to be hanging Eclipse curtains from Target (supposedly 100% light-blocking) this weekend over the blinds. I am hoping this will help, because the morning sun comes in at 6:30 AM and it's unstoppable.

As electronic musicians living in a large apartment complex, we have recorded 4 albums there over the course of 8 years and have never had one complaint. We are extremely respectful and WAY quieter than our neighbors. We generally (as much as possible) mix with headphones, and keep our monitors facing in to the room. We record most instruments directly, and only record vocals during day or very early evening hours.

Honestly, our neighbors who blast their televisions and stereos are way louder than we are.

I kind of wish I'd never seen this, because now I know what my ideal perfect bedframe is, and it is a one of a kind piece that I can never have. *SOB*
