No need to add more categories to this contest. Rent/own, geography (I mean, what?!?), etc., the line has be drawn somewhere! And there were plenty of lines as it was! Sorry, but not everyone can/should win everything. Rented or owned, a dull, poorly planned space is a dull, poorly planned space.

If AT does contemplate any changes, might I suggest immediately disqualifying entries with "For Like Ever" posters or "Keep Calm" anything?

@hippyvieja- Perhaps you were joking, but how is having a Murphy bed "an unfair advantage"? Isn't creativity in the use of space the whole point of this contest?

Why the vignette and radiator photos but none of the den? It appears to be a significant chunk of the space.

P.S. Thanks for sharing the resources and blogs! This is actually very bad, as neither my NYC apt. nor wallet can handle it...:-)

Of the gazillion home decor photos I've seen, this is the ONLY murphy bed set-up that I have ever, ever liked--a testament to the taste and sophistication of this space. I love it!

Garrett-if you ever need to unload some of your furniture, I'll take it! Whatever "it" is!

Lovely and adorable! And I'm coveting the hell out of that pouf and floor mirror!

Is it me or have this year's entries raised the bar? I've since trashed my own (small) apt., trying to redecorate, and now it's a mess. Thanks a lot, AT.

One of the best on AT, by any category! I love that she wasn't deterred by the limited space or "normal" (i.e., boring) decorating rules: with the 4-poster bed (and putting it in front of a bookcase!), the antique furniture, and all those personal decorative items. And the bathroom is FAN-TAS-TIC. More spaces like these on AT, please! For all categories!!!

Ikea simply rocks. I re-did my kitchen (with the help of a contractor for the installation) using all Ikea products, except for door handles and knobs (which allow for personalization and aren't expensive anyway), and after 2 years, my (all-white!) kitchen still looks fantastic. The extra-deep drawer option is a favorite, and so is the no-slam hardware, which can be absurdly expensive at the custom level--and that's if it's available at all.

I enjoyed this post, but I disagree on two points:

1.) I can't see the logic behind spending nearly double on door fronts--between the doors themselves and the custom painting. Not to mention the additional planning with yet another vendor.

2.) There was no hassle whatsoever in obtaining the items. The kitchen planner kicked out a list of all the products, which I faxed (along with my payment info) to Ikea. They collected my whole order and had it waiting for me. I think the key is paying for it ahead of time; you're in and out in 15 minutes.

I love Ikea's sheepskin rugs and have two that add glamor on the cheap. But this....this rug hack looks like Mr. Hanky.

Beautiful! The checkered floor, gray wall, furniture, bookshelf...disparate and yet cohesive.

Not sure why my comment appears to have been deleted, but I said:

The most interesting items in this home are the toilet and the sconce.

Well, they are.

Source for the gold hand sculpture/ring holder, please? My pet peeve with "jewelry stands" is, they tip over at the slightest touch, but this piece looks solid--and is stunning!

And how come I never find anything remotely as cool at my local Home Goods?!!?? (Manhattan)

I had a quick look-see. Eh. Nothing offensive-looking, but they need to rethink the marketing unless many 20- and early-30-somethings are making 6-figures nowadays.

Used to be a an of the Novogratzs (-es?) when they were on Bravo, but something went wrong on their way to HGTV. And then it went really wrong when they teamed up with CB2. This space of full of CB2's typical garish -and-tacky or bland-and nondescript stuff (both (!) sofas, dining room pendants, kids' chairs, etc.) Previous weeks' spaces were "off," but at least they were original.

I think the husband liked the space, but the wife looked mildy ill at ease.

I bought a knock off Bourgie lamp for <$100, and I love it. I'm not going to live in the dark while scrimping and saving for the "real" thing (like one commenter suggested). I need light! And at the end of the day, it's just molded plastic and a cord. Mine is even UL listed like the original!
