I love these "collection" posts that give a wide range of ideas. (And I'll add my own 50 cent version here: http://thereddollarhouse.blogspot.com/2011/08/candle-holder-to-hose-caddy.html)

Thanks AT!

I haven't had the chance to try them yet, but apps like "Find Tag Sales" are supposed to help you track multiple sales - estate, garage, etc. - and map your route. I'm giving it a shot come spring.

Great post! The Hemingway House in Key West houses his writing studio on the second floor of the carriage house. This pictures I found don't seem to do justice to the magic of the room, but it was quite inspiring...

I appreciate the review, but this item doesn't belong on Re-Nest. A disposable garbage can is the opposite of green. And their website states that the components are "either biodegradable or degradable", not 100% biodegradable. Their Sierra Club Green Home endorsement, mentioned on their website, talks about the recycling container and how it promotes recycling, but not the overall makeup of the product, or the company's practices.

I'd love it if Re-Nest would do some more investigating on the actual eco-quality of the things you review and work harder to truly promote products and ideas that are appropriate to real green homes.

Respectfully,
Heidi V.

Having lived in a hot, tropical climate, I would definitely have chosen to plant trees in front of the windows. In moderation, the sun is wonderful. Too much of a good thing, however, is brutal.

Nicely done.

While I appreciate the sentiment behind Hand in Hand's mission, I do not believe it is a well researched idea.
I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the fifth poorest country in the world (at the time), Burkina Faso in West Africa. My job was to help improve the health of the local population. I worked in conjunction with a rural village health clinic that was supposed to serve about 10,000 people.
The problem with hygiene and sanitation was hardly related to access to soap. The primary issues were education and clean water. All sorts of inexpensive soap products were available to people at the local markets - everything from locally made shea butter soaps to cheap Chinese imports.

Most people had to walk at least a mile if not 10 miles to reach a source of clean water. Some foreign development agencies had built a few pumps in the area, but they were few and far between.

Again, I appreciate the effort, but before undertaking such a huge project that is supposed to help, more research needs to be done to realistically and effectively address the most pressing needs.

Respectfully,
Heidi

I like this idea, similar to what my grandparents used to do to heat the bed in winter: once tub is full "place 3 large stones that were baked for 15 minutes at 350 degrees in the tub".

I love you, re-nest. I can't wait to read you every day. But you have deeply disappointed by featuring a craft, and picture of said craft, that starts with a styrofoam ball. Yes, you tried to make it up to me by offering more green alternatives, but I saw through your disguise. Hang your head, dear re-nest, and come back when you have really decided to embrace green.
Sadly,
Heidi
